Cubs signed INF Jeudy Valdez to a minor league contract.
The 24-year-old middle infielder slashed .251/.300/.406 with 10 homers, 49 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 125 games at Double-A San Antonio in 2013, but also struck out 106 times while walking just 27 and was caught stealing 12 times. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Cubs.

Padres sent INF Jeudy Valdez outright to Triple-A Tucson.
Valdez was designated for assignment last week to make room for the newly-claimed Fautino De Los Santos. He's cleared waivers, though, and will be in big league camp as a non-roster invitee. The 23-year-old infielder batted .225/.273/.364 with 12 homers and a .637 OPS last season with Double-A San Antonio.
