Orioles released INF Josh Barfield.
Barfield's release makes room on the Triple-A Norfolk roster for the recently-demoted Jason Berken. Barfield hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009. He'll look to sign on elsewhere as organizational depth.

Sun Mar 27 201110:32Josh Barfield among Phils' cuts
Phillies reassigned 2B Josh Barfield and Cs Dane Sardinha and Tuffy Gosewisch to minor league camp.
Barfield impressed with the bat early on in camp but has since cooled off. He has shown increased versatility, though, playing third base and the outfield in addition to second. Pete Orr, Michael Martinez and Delwyn Young will fight for the final spot on the bench, with Martinez possibly having a leg up being a Rule 5 pick.

Mon Mar 21 201115:38Phillies' Barfield knocks in two
Josh Barfield singled in two of the Phillies' four runs in Monday's win over the Red Sox.
Barfield was already behind Wilson Valdez at second base and now he has Luis Castillo to worry about as well, so he's still probably an underdog to make the Phillies. However, he's helping his chances by showing increased versatility while continuing his fine performance at the plate. He started at third base today and then moved to center field after Shane Victorino got hurt.

Tue Mar 1 201116:44Phillies' Barfield goes 2-for-3
Josh Barfield went 2-for-3 with a double on Tuesday and is 4-for-5 this spring.
Barfield is going to get more at-bats than expected as a result of Chase Utley's injury. Because of his lack of versatility, he probably won't make the Phillies unless Utley needs a DL stint. However, perhaps he can impress another team as a potential regular at second base.
Sat Nov 20 201010:08Phils ink Barfield to minor league deal
Phillies signed 2B Josh Barfield to a minor league deal.
Barfield has fallen completely off the map since his impressive rookie season back in 2006. He hit a decent .294/.325/.400 with five homers in 265 at-bats at Triple-A Portland this past season, but given that the Phils have that Utley guy at second base, it's not the best place for him to make a comeback.
