The report comes from MLBDailyDish.com's Chris Cotillo, who says Antonelli will become a student assistant next season at Wake Forest, where he went to college. A former first-round pick, Antonelli made it up to the majors for 21 games with the Padres in 2008 but had not come close to sniffing the big leagues since.

Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports that the Orioles have signed infielder Matt Antonelli, pending a physical.
He is expected to receive a big league deal, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. Antonelli, who turns 27 next April, batted .298/.390/.457 with eight homers, 31 RBI and an .847 OPS over 374 plate appearances this season between Double- and Triple-A in the Nationals' organization. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2008 as a member of the Padres and is unlikely to crack the O's Opening Day roster.
