Sun Mar 23 201411:36C Torrealba opts out of Angels' contract
Yorvit Torrealba has opted out of his contract and is now a free agent, reports Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.
The veteran catcher told the media Saturday that there was "zero chance" he'd accept an assignment to the minor leagues if he didn't make the Angels out of spring training, and he's stayed true to his word. Torrealba had essentially no chance to unseat Chris Iannetta or Hank Conger on the depth chart, so this move was inevitable, barring an injury. Torrealba hit .240/.295/.285 with no homers and 16 RBI in 61 games for the Rockies last year. Another minor league deal will be out there if he wants it.

Fri Mar 29 201320:00Torrealba makes Rockies as backup catcher
Rockies purchased the contract of C Yorvit Torrealba from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
As expected, Torrealba will serve as the primary backup behind Wilin Rosario. The 34-year-old veteran beat out Ramon Hernandez for the job by hitting a cool .500/.545/.700 with a homer and five RBI over 13 games in the spring. He could be worth a look in the deepest of NL-only leagues while playing half his games at Coors Field, but has little fantasy relevance outside of that.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rockies have signed Yorvit Torrealba.
He doesn't reveal whether it's a major or minor league deal, though MLB.com's Thomas Harding report earlier this week that they had offered him a minor league pact. It's an odd landing spot for Torrealba, who gives the Rockies a third catcher along with Wilin Rosario and Ramon Hernandez. Torrealba batted .227/.293/.330 with four home runs and a .623 OPS in 218 plate appearances last season between the Rangers, Blue Jays and Brewers.
