Next up for the Browns' QB snaps should McCown miss any practice reps (or even game action) is Johnny Manziel, with Austin Davis also on hand.

McCown suffered a sprained ankle during Sunday's overtime win against the Ravens and is hopeful of playing in Week 6 against the Broncos, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

McCown finished Sunday's game with a whopping 457 yards and two touchdowns, but tweaked his ankle on Cleveland's game-winning drive during overtime. It's unknown how much the 36-year-old will be impacted by his sprained ankle, but McCown will need to be plenty mobile against the Broncos' vaunted pass rush in Week 6. While McCown's practice participation during this week should help clarify his upcoming availability, backup Johnny Manziel would figure to see increased reps if McCown is limited going forward.

McCown suffered an ankle injury on the winning drive in overtime Sunday against Baltimore and was seen afterward limping in the locker room. "One of the linemen was telling me he got bull-rushed and held and tackled into me, so I rolled my ankle," he told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It feels all right. At the moment it was pretty painful. I think I'll be fine, though."

McCown didn't need to come out of the game, so the injury sounds minor. Still, we'll need to watch his progress this week to make sure it isn't something more significant. McCown was 36-of-51 passing for 457 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

McCown nearly doubled his per-game average in yards against the slumping Ravens. Coming into the season, there were two primary questions about McCown: whether he could repeat his efficient performance of 2013 and whether he had the weapons to succeed in Cleveland. Thus far, McCown has been accurate, careful with the football and developed a rapport with the likes of Gary Barnidge, Travis Benjamin and Andrew Hawkins. Next week he'll be tested by the Broncos' relentless pass rush and deep secondary.

McCown (hand) completed 32-of-41 passes for 356 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-27 loss at San Diego. He did lose a fumble at one point.

McCown moved the ball well for most of the game, although the Browns' offense bogged down a few times on the Chargers' side of the field, which led to four field goals by Travis Coons. He was clutch late, completing 4-of-4 passes for 45 yards on a game-tying drive that culminated in a short touchdown pass to TE Gary Barnidge at 2:09 of the final period. Unfortunately, McCown left too much time for Philip Rivers, who engineered his own clutch drive that ended with the game-winning field goal. In any event, it was probably one of McCown's best games as a pro, and he's certainly silenced most of the critics that are calling for Johnny Manziel to start at QB. The veteran QB will face a suspect Ravens' secondary in Week 5.

Though the report relays that McCown was spotted in the locker room Monday with "a swollen right hand, a gash on the top of it and a wrapped ring finger," the quarterback's Week 4 status does not appear to be in any danger at this stage.

McCown jammed a finger during the preseason but didn't end up missing any practice time. Sunday's injury is likely unrelated, and while it doesn't sound too serious, he may have some swelling during the week. McCown struggled in the first half of Sunday's game, but his starting job probably isn't in any immediate danger, as he made a contest of it after halftime, ultimately finishing with 341 passing yards and two touchdowns.

He immediately reclaimed the starting quarterback role from Johnny Manziel after returning from a concussion, and nothing about his game today would suggest McCown is in any danger of losing his job to Manziel any time soon.

McCown took multiple high-impact hits when attempting to reach the endzone in a play that ultimately resulted in a turnover -- and left the Browns scoreless in that red zone possession. Look for the team to provide an update in the near future, including clarification on whether or not he sustained a concussion and will have to enter the league's mandatory protocol. While McCown is undergoing evaluation, backup quarterback Johnny Manziel will take over as the signal caller.

McCown will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Bears, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Per the report, other Cleveland starters are also in line to rest on Thursday. Though holding McCown out of game action this coming week is not an injury-related move, coach Mike Pettine noted that he'd like to see the veteran QB do a better job of avoiding big hits. "He's got to understand it's a long season and we need him out there," Pettine said of the Browns' presumed Week 1 starter.

McCown completed 17 of 23 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns, adding three carries for 20 yards, in Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers.

McCown played into the third quarter before giving way to Thaddeus Lewis. The highlight was a 16-play, 80-yard drive in the first quarter that featured a pair of McCown scrambles for first downs. Likely done for the preseason, McCown should enjoy working behind a strong offensive line, but he arguably has the league's worst supporting cast at the skill positions.
