Orioles optioned RHP Mark Worrell to Triple-A Norfolk.
He was cleared to make room for Vladimir Guerrero's return from the disabled list. Worrell was blasted for 13 runs on 14 hits (including three home runs) over 7 2/3 innings in two appearances with the O's and could be hard-pressed to get another opportunity in the majors any time soon.

More than three years since his last major league appearance, Mark Worrell failed to deliver for the Orioles on Monday, surrendering three earned runs on two hits and a walk without retiring a batter.
Certainly not the outing Worrell or the Orioles were hoping for. In tepid defense, he faced Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, and Kevin Youkilis -- not an easy task even for seasoned veterans. We'll see how long he's able to last at this level.

Orioles purchased the contract of RHP Mark Worrell from Triple-A Norfolk.
He's posted a 2.95 ERA in 35 relief appearances at Norfolk, earning the promotion. Worrell, 28, hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2008 as a member of the Cardinals. He missed the entire 2009 season following Tommy John surgery, but returned to compile a 5.84 ERA and 34/14 K/BB ratio over 37 innings between Triple-A Portland (Padres) and Triple-A Tacoma (Mariners) last season. He'll operate out of middle relief.

His contract does not include an invite to spring training. Worrell, who turns 28 in March, hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2008 as a member of the Cardinals. Mariners signed RHP Mark Worrell to a minor league contract.
Worrell was released by the Padres in June after throwing up a 5.45 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP in 25 appearances for Triple-A Portland. He will kick off his Mariners career at Triple-A Tacoma and try to work his way up from there.
