Fri Dec 9 201113:48Sean Gallagher signs with Reds
Reds signed RHP Sean Gallagher to a minor league contract.
Gallagher was a decent prospect at one time and will turn just 26 later this month, but his star has faded rapidly. He held a 5.11 ERA and 1.49 WHIP at Triple-A in the Pirates organization in 2011, failing to make it up to the big league level. He's merely organizational depth.

According to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, Sean Gallagher remains under team control for one more season.
When Gallagher was sent outright to Triple-A Indianapolis last week, the Pirates were working under the assumption that the right-hander would be able to declare himself a minor league free agent on Saturday. Apparently not. Instead, he'll likely be in camp with the club during spring training,

Wed Nov 3 201017:05Pirates outright Gallagher to Triple-A Indy
Pirates sent RHP Sean Gallagher outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Bucs acquired Gallagher in July from the Padres for cash considerations. He went on to post a 6.03 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 34 1/3 innings with Pittsburgh and has an unclear future in the major leagues.
Sat Jul 10 201010:15Gallagher to be used in long relief role
New Pirate Sean Gallagher will be used initially in a long relief role.
"He's got four pitches, and he's started a lot, so he could be a good fit for us there," manager John Russell said. Gallagher has struggled with walks and consistency in his delivery, but the 24-year-old has swing-and-miss stuff and will likely himself in the team's starting rotation at some point during the second half.

Wed Jul 7 201015:40Pirates acquire RHP Gallagher from Padres
Pirates acquired RHP Sean Gallagher from the Padres for cash considerations.
It's a worthwhile gamble for the Pirates. The former top prospect has a 5.57 ERA over 60 major league appearances, averaging 5.25 BB/9, but he has a full assortment of pitches and the ability to get opposing batters to swing and miss. The Pirates already have a frustrating-yet-talented right-hander in the form of Charlie Morton, now they have another. If one of them pans out, they'd probably be pretty happy.

Thu Jul 1 201019:18Gallagher designated for assignment
Padres designated RHP Sean Gallagher for assignment.
We're betting someone will put a claim in on him. The right-hander is still just 25 years old and has a good arm, but walks have been his undoing at the major league level. Still, there's enough upside here for some team to take a gamble.
Fri May 28 201019:25Padres activate Gallagher from DL
Padres activated RHP Sean Gallagher from the 15-day disabled list.
Gallagher has been on the disabled list since May 4 due to a sprained toe on his left foot. He returns to a 6.92 ERA and 12/13 K/BB ratio over nine relief appearances.
Tue May 25 201010:39Gallagher struggling in rehab assignment
Sean Gallagher is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP since beginning a rehab assignment two weeks ago at Triple-A Portland.
The Padres are off to an excellent 26-18 start this season and won't call up Gallagher until he shows that he can be effective against minor league competition. The 24-year-old righty had a 6.92 ERA and a 2.08 WHIP in nine appearances before suffering a sprained toe in early May.

Sat May 8 201008:50Gallagher close to rejoining Padres
The San Diego Union-Tribune report that Sean Gallagher (toe) will join Triple-A Portland for his rehab assignment starting Monday.
Gallagher isn't eligible to be activated until May 19, but if he's well enough to pitch, rehab is a better use of his time than not pitching with the Padres. The former Cub had a 6.92 ERA and a 2.08 WHIP in nine appearances so far this year.

Tue May 4 201023:26Gallagher (toe) placed on 15-day DL
Padres placed RHP Sean Gallagher on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained toe on his left foot.
Gallagher "rammed his toe" into a closet door on a trip to Cincinnati last month and it has bothered him ever since. Hey, at least it wasn't a metal folding chair. There's no current timeline for his return. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 6.92 ERA and 13/12 K/BB ratio over nine relief appearances this season.
Tue May 4 201017:40Padres' Gallagher to go on DL with toe injury
Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres will place reliever Sean Gallagher on the disabled list with a toe injury.
No word on the specifics of the injury or how long Gallagher may be sidelined. The 24-year-old right-hander has an ugly 6.92 ERA and 13/12 K/BB ratio in nine relief appearances this season. Ryan Webb, who is currently with the team, is expected to take his place on the roster. Webb, a 24-year-old right-hander, has tossed 10 scoreless innings with Triple-A Portland this season.
