Tue Mar 24 201518:49Bell has elected to retire
Bell has elected to retire, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.
After getting released by the Nationals Monday, Bell has elected to not try to latch on with another big league club. The three-time All-Star has 168 career saves and now looks forward to spending time with his wife and four kids.
Mon Mar 23 201517:36Bell released by Nationals on Monday
Bell was released by the Nationals on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.
Bell stood little chance of securing a bullpen spot out of camp, and it appears his run with the Nationals has come to a close. He is now a free agent and will likely look elsewhere for another opportunity.
Thu Feb 19 201510:05Bell lost about 40 pounds this offseason
Bell lost about 40 pounds this offseason, as he trained for two triathlons and improved his diet, the Washington Post reports.
Let the parade of "in the best shape of his life" stories begin. The Nationals' bullpen is depleted with the losses of Tyler Clippard, Rafael Soriano and Ross Detwiler this offseason, but Bell still faces an uphill climb to even win a middle relief spot in Washington. A good showing this spring could attract interest from another club, however.
Mon Dec 22 201412:17Bell has signed minor league deal including spring training invi...
Bell has signed a minor league deal including a spring training invite with the Nationals, Chris Cotillo reports.
It would be a shock if Bell made the major league team out of spring training given Washington's wealth of right-handed relievers. The 37-year-old hasn't registered an ERA below 4.00 since 2011, and the well of bad teams willing to give him save opportunities has completely dried. He will likely start at Triple-A Syracuse and could be called up in the event of an injury, but there is no way the Nats are giving him a role anything near closer or set-up man, giving him virtually no fantasy value.
Tue Jun 24 201417:19Yankees release 36-year-old RHP Heath Bell
Yankees released RHP Heath Bell.
Bell had a 7.50 ERA in five appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 36-year-old right-hander will presumably try to latch on with a new organization, but we may never see him at the major league level again.

Fri Jun 13 201417:38Yankees bring in Bell on minor league deal
Yankees signed RHP Heath Bell to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Bell posted a 4.22 ERA over 10 Triple-A appearances for the Orioles before opting out of his contract because he was told a promotion wasn't imminent. He likely has a similar deal worked out with the Yankees. Bell could very well find his way back onto the big league roster, but his days of fantasy relevance are surely over.

Sun Jun 8 201421:16Heath Bell opts out of contract with Orioles
Heath Bell has elected free agency.
The Orioles weren't going to be calling up the veteran reliever any time soon, so he chose instead to look for work elsewhere. He posted a 7.27 ERA over 13 appearances for the Rays this season, and will likely have to settle for a minor league pact wherever he winds up.

Fri May 16 201420:47Orioles sign Heath Bell to minor league deal
Orioles signed RHP Heath Bell to a minor league contract.
The veteran right-hander was given the boot from the Rays after posting a 7.27 ERA over his first 13 relief appearances. He'll function as additional bullpen depth for the Orioles, and should work his way into the big league bullpen before too long.

Thu May 15 201420:13Heath Bell receiving interest from four clubs
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that the Orioles and Mariners are two of four teams that have shown "serious interest" in Heath Bell.
Cotillo says that Bell is evaluating offers from the four clubs and trying to determine where would be the best fit for him. He's expected to sign somewhere within the next few days. Bell was released by the Rays over the weekend after putting up a 7.27 ERA over 13 appearances.

Sun May 11 201409:05Heath Bell officially released by Rays
Rays released RHP Heath Bell.
Bell had been designated for assignment a week ago and obviously had no problem clearing waivers considering his contract. Given that he can be signed for the veteran minimum now, he won't have trouble finding a job in spite of a 4.91 ERA since the beginning of the 2012 season.

Sun May 4 201410:23Rays designate Heath Bell for assignment
Rays designated RHP Heath Bell for assignment.
Bell surrendered three runs on three hits and a walk in Saturday's loss to the Yankees, and that was evidently the final straw. The big right-hander put up a 7.27 ERA over 13 appearances for the Rays. No one will touch Bell on waivers due to his salary, but he won't have trouble getting a shot somewhere once he becomes a free agent.

Thu Apr 24 201417:35Heath Bell roughed up by Twins
Heath Bell was pounded for five runs by the Twins in 1 2/3 innings of relief on Thursday.
It's a good thing the Rays signed Grant Balfour because Bell may well have gotten a chance to close otherwise. He's given up 11 earned runs in his last six appearances, and he's currently sporting an 8.25 ERA.

Tue Dec 3 201316:07Rays acquire Heath Bell from Diamondbacks
Rays acquired RHP Heath Bell and cash considerations from the Diamondbacks in a three-team trade.
The Rays will only be responsible for $5.5 million of Bell's $9 million salary for 2014, as the Diamondbacks and Marlins will pay the rest. It will be interesting to see if the Rays give him a chance at the closer role, as his $9 million option for 2015 vests with 55 games finished in 2014. The 36-year-old had some issues with the home run ball this past season, but made improvements with his strikeout and walk rates. Given the Rays' success with previous reclamation projects, he will be an interesting name to watch in fantasy leagues.

Thu Aug 29 201301:23Heath Bell gives up two homers in relief
Heath Bell gave up two homers and three runs in his inning of relief Wednesday against the Padres.
Bell didn't take a blown save or a loss, but he did put the game pretty much out of reach, entering a 2-1 game in the eighth and leaving with the score 5-1. Any chance of him replacing Brad Ziegler as closer is likely gone now.

Mon Aug 26 201315:20Report: Heath Bell put on revocable waivers
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, reliever Heath Bell was recently placed on revocable waivers.
It's a common thing this time of year and doesn't mean a transaction is coming. Bell has a 3.88 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 62/13 K/BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings this season -- pretty good numbers considering how often he's been hit hard. The 35-year-old has yielded 10 home runs.

Sat Aug 24 201323:56Bell gives up two-run homer to Darin Ruf
Heath Bell surrendered two runs in the eighth inning Saturday night against the Phillies.
Bell gave up a one-out single to Carlos Ruiz and a two-run homer to Darin Ruf -- allowing the Phillies to tie the game 7-7. Bell has allowed 10 home runs this year.

Thu Jul 11 201319:58Diamondbacks going to closer-by-committee
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said before Thursday's game that the team doesn't have a closer at this point.
The club planned to use Heath Bell at closer while J.J. Putz rebuilt his arm strength, but Bell has blown back-to-back save chances. Putz figures to be the best bet for saves in Arizona over the long haul, but the D'Backs will play the matchups for now.

Thu Jul 4 201319:06Bell blows save chance against Mets
Heath Bell blew a save chance Thursday against the Mets.
After entering the bottom of the 13th inning with a 3-2 lead, Bell was able to get Marlon Byrd on a ground out and strike out Josh Satin swinging for the second out. However, Anthony Recker took Bell deep to keep the game alive. Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson plans to use Bell in save situations for now while J.J. Putz rebuilds his arm strength, but that arrangement might not last long.

Thu Jul 4 201300:34Bell collects his 15th save of 2013 vs. Mets
Heath Bell earned his 15th save of the season Wednesday in the Diamondbacks' defeat of the Mets.
Bell allowed a two-out single to John Buck but got Andrew Brown to fly out to end it. The big righty is filling in at closer for the D'Backs until Heath Bell rebuilds some arm strength and is worth owning in standard fantasy leagues until he inevitably screws it up. Bell has a 4.45 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 35 total appearances this season.
