Ryan Spilborghs has announced his retirement from baseball.

The 34-year-old spent parts of seven seasons with the Rockies, batting .272/.345/.423, and played last year in Japan. He's taken a job as an analyst with ROOT Sports, which is a gig that he should do well in given his dry sense of humor.

Ryan Spilborghs had a big night in the Rockies' 12-run, 20-hit outburst Thursday, going 4-for-6 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored.

Spilborghs may not be Carlos Gonzalez, but he hit like him in this one while taking his spot in center field and in the leadoff spot. It's an unexpected explosion from an outfielder that hadn't homered since April and had driven in just two runs since the beginning of June. If Spilborghs can get hot but the Rockies end up as sellers at the deadline, he's a trade candidate.
