Ryan Spilborghs has elected free agency.
Spilborghs hit a quality .288/.358/.415 with nine homers and 69 RBI between two organizations at the Triple-A level in 2012. A capable defender in all three outfield spots, he shouldn't have much difficulty receiving a spring training invite with a chance to compete for a reserve role.

Fri Jan 20 201212:34Ryan Spilborghs inks minors deal with Indians
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Ryan Spilborghs has agreed to a minor league contract with the Indians.
The deal is pending a physical. Spilborghs is coming off a disappointing 2011 season where he batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances. But, he's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, can play all three outfield positions and could give the Indians more balance in their left-handed hitting-heavy outfield. He'll have to win a bench spot, with Aaron Cunningham likely representing his chief competition (though both could ultimately make the team).

Fri Jan 20 201209:11Report: Ryan Spilborghs to sign with Indians
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that free agent outfielder Ryan Spilborghs is likely to sign with the Indians.
The Indians are left-handed heavy in their outfield, so Spilborghs would have a good shot to crack the Opening Day roster. He might have to beat out Aaron Cunningham for a spot, though. The 32-year-old is coming off a disappointing 2011 season where he batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances. He's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, though, and can play all three outfield positions.

The 32-year-old earned $1.95 million this season while batting just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs, 22 RBI and a .588 OPS over 223 plate appearances. He shouldn't have any trouble finding a new home, but he has been a vastly different player outside of Coors Field during his career.

Fri Oct 21 201121:46Spilborghs, Stewart uncertain on 2012 status
Ryan Spilborghs and Ian Stewart both hinted they would play winter ball after disappointing seasons, but their injuries and arbitration situations have put them in a holding pattern.
Both could be non-tendered this winter, making them free agents. Spilborghs, who has previously played winter ball in Mexico, spent two stints on the disabled list this season with plantar fasciitis in his right heel, limiting him to 98 games. Stewart didn't play in the instructional league due to a wrist injury and isn't expected to swing a bat until November. The Rockies have yet to make any decisions regarding either player, though Rockies owner Dick Monfort recently expressed confidence Stewart as an option at third base moving forward.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Red Sox are "strongly considering" adding Ryan Spilborghs as a fourth outfielder.
The Red Sox are impressed with rookie outfielder Josh Reddick, so as Heyman notes, they now "seem off" on Carlos Beltran. Spilborghs, 31, is batting just .223/.309/.324 over 201 plate appearances, but is a career .274/.348/.427 hitter and capable of playing all three outfield positions.

Fri Jul 15 201100:05Ryan Spilborghs picks up four hits
Ryan Spilborghs had a big night in the Rockies' 12-run, 20-hit outburst Thursday, going 4-for-6 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored.
Spilborghs may not be Carlos Gonzalez, but he hit like him in this one while taking his spot in center field and in the leadoff spot. It's an unexpected explosion from an outfielder that hadn't homered since April and had driven in just two runs since the beginning of June. If Spilborghs can get hot but the Rockies end up as sellers at the deadline, he's a trade candidate.
