Brad Hawpe is expected to be called up from Triple-A Salt Lake for Saturday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
It's well deserved, as Hawpe is hitting .305/.405/.504 with six home runs, 28 RBI and a .909 OPS in 37 games this season in Triple-A. The 33-year-old hasn't played in the big leagues since 2011 with the Padres.

Brad Hawpe homered in the bottom of the eighth to help the Pirates edge the Orioles 4-3 on Monday.
Hawpe was 3-for-23 with 10 strikeouts this spring before taking Daniel Schlereth deep for his first home run. He's not going to make the Pirates, but perhaps he'll be able to impress one of the other 29 teams before Opening Day.

Brad Hawpe has been placed on the disabled list at Double-A Frisco because of elbow fatigue.
Hawpe underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last August and is still rebuilding the strength in his right arm. The 32-year-old should be fine after a few weeks of rest but seems unlikely to have any sort of impact at the major league level this season.

Hawpe plans to progress to on-field work on Tuesday and should be cleared for Cactus League action by the end of this week. He's been slowed in Rangers camp by hamstring soreness but has plenty of time to get his at-bats in before the start of the regular season. Hawpe is trying to lock up a spot on Texas' Opening Day bench.

Rangers signed 1B/OF Brad Hawpe to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a spring training invite. Hawpe, who underwent Tommy John surgery last August, batted .231/.301/.344 with four home runs, 19 RBI and a .645 over 216 plate appearances with the Padres in 2011. The 32-year-old will provide some insurance at first base in case Mitch Moreland has any setbacks from right wrist surgery.
