Wheeler owns a .345 on-base percentage to go along with five homers and five stolen bases over 115 plate appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque.
Wheeler was once regarded as a top prospect for the Rockies after socking 33 homers and stealing 21 bases at Double-A Tulsa in 2011, but lost most of that luster after stalling out at Triple-A the last four seasons. He finally seems to be enjoying his greatest success at the level to date, but now that he's 27 years old, it's too late in his career to matter much. Wheeler was taken off the Rockies' 40-man roster after the 2013 season and seems to be written off as organizational outfield depth.
Sat Mar 22 201421:24Wheeler belts fourth spring homer vs. Indians
Tim Wheeler went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against the Indians on Saturday.
Wheeler was outrighted off the Rockies' 40-man roster last November, an indication of his struggles in the minors, but the 26-year-old has four home runs in Cactus League play. He's now hitting .395 in his bid to make the Rockies as a bench player. Even if he can't break camp with the club, the outfielder has put himself back on the club's radar with his showing.
