Herrera flied out as a pinch hitter Monday.

Though he showed his versatility and value to the Cubs earlier in the year while the team was waiting for Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, and others to join the team, Herrera is clearly an afterthought at this point. He only batted 18 times in all of August, hitting two doubles and striking out five times.

An oblique injury to Tommy La Stella and Arismendy Alcantara's ongoing struggles at the plate have paved the way for Herrera to pick up regular at-bats for the Cubs.
