RHP Esmil Rogers was signed to a minor-league contract. Rogers last pitched in the major leagues in 2015, when he appeared in 18 games -- all in relief -- for the New York Yankees. Rogers went 19-22 with a 5.59 ERA in 210 career games (43 starts) with Colorado, Cleveland, Toronto and the Yankees.

Rogers was released by the Yankees on Friday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Rogers is expected to sign with the Hanwaha Eagles of the Korean League, as he looks to regain the form that once made him a desired player, At 29-year-old, it seems unlikely that he'll make a big splash in the majors at any point, but it's possible he could resurface at some point if he pitches well enough in Korea.

Rogers was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old did not end up making an appearance after his contract was selected last weekend. In 18 appearances during a prior stint with the big club this season, Rogers gave up a whopping 29 runs (23 earned) on 41 hits in just 33 innings. Outfielder Taylor Dugas was called up to take Rogers' place on the roster.

The Yankees purchased Rogers' contract Sunday from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.

After the Astros were able to dig into the Yankees' bullpen in Saturday's game, Rogers will be brought aboard to give the team a fresh arm for Sunday's series finale. Don't expect impressive results for Rogers if his number is called, as he supplied a 6.27 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 33 innings in relief for the Yankees earlier this season before he was outrighted off the 40-man roster two weeks ago.

It's probably no coincidence that Rogers' removal from the 40-man roster came shortly after he was touched up for four runs (one earned) on five hits over two innings of relief in Friday's blowout loss to the Orioles. Outings of that nature haven't been uncommon this season for Rogers, who actually lowered his ERA from 6.39 to 6.27 by virtue of being charged for only one run.

Rogers surrendered five runs on four hits and walk without recording an out in Friday's win over the Angels.

Rogers was called upon to pitch the ninth inning of what appeared to be a blowout win with the Yankees up 8-1, but after allowing all five batters he faced to reach base, Dellin Betances had to come in to secure the win. The 29-year-old has been viewed as a longer option out of the bullpen, but he's struggled mightily for much of the year, as his ERA stands at 6.39, so his appearances may start coming fewer and farther between.

Rogers got tagged for seven runs -- all earned -- in three innings of relief work in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.

Rogers was called upon early as the starter CC Sabathia surrendered six runs in just 2.1 innings, but the game got even further out of hand quickly after that. His ERA has now ballooned up to 4.97 on the season, and he'll likely be unavailable for a few days after tossing 59 pitches in the losing effort.

Rogers allowed two runs over 3.1 innings after replacing the injured Chase Whitley in the second inning of Thursday's loss to the Rays.

Rogers has now allowed at least one run in each of his last four appearances, a stretch that has bumped his ERA up to 3.63. He'll continue to serve as a long man option out of the bullpen, but likely won't see too many high leverage situations.

Rogers took a tough luck loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, walking one and striking out four over 4.2 innings of a 19 inning loss to the Red Sox on Friday night.

The numbers don't stand out, but the last man in the bullpen gutted out an 81 pitch (52 for strikes) outing before the Red Sox were able to finish it in the 19th inning. Both he and Chasen Shreve, who tossed 3.1 innings, will likely be unavailable over the next couple of days.

Rogers has won a bullpen spot with the Yankees to open the season, Marly Rivera of ESPN Deportes reports.

Rogers has been effective in his 14 spring innings to date, posting a 2.57 ERA and 13:3 K:BB ratio. He'll likely have some opportunities to pick up holds this season while he works in a setup role.

Rogers pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one in Thursday's spring training game against the Pirates.

Rogers was told to prepare for spring training as a starter, so while he likely will start the season out of the bullpen, the club will evaluate his spring performance with both possibilities in mind. The Yankees have mentioned the idea of toying with a six man rotation during long stretches of consecutive games, so Rogers could be used as the sixth starter in that scenario.

A waiver acquisition at the end of July, Rogers posted a 4.68 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB in 18 appearances with the Yankees down the stretch. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed, but it would make sense if Rogers settled for less than what he likely would have made in arbitration as to avoid being non-tendered.

Rogers pitched one inning Wednesday, giving up an earned run to raise his ERA to 4.83.

While Rogers' ERA for the season is high, he's been much better since joining the Yankees, working a 2.66 ERA in 12 appearances. He's done solid relief work, but is likely not valuable in most fantasy formats.

Rogers will not start Wednesday as originally scheduled, with Michael Pineda returning from the disabled list, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports.

The news means Rogers is likely headed back to the bullpen. Pineda hasn't pitched in the big leagues since April, so he could be on a limited pitch or inning count, which could allow Rogers the opportunity to have an extended relief appearance Wednesday.

Rogers has been listed as the Yankees starter Wednesday against Baltimore, though an official decision has yet to be made, Newsday reports.

There has been some speculation that Michael Pineda would be ready to return to the team and start on Wednesday, but if not, Rogers would be in line to make his second start for the Yankees. Rogers picked up the win last time, allowing just run one over five innings. While the decision still isn't official, this would likely mean Pineda would be in line for a third rehab start.

Rogers turned in five solid frames Friday night, giving up one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out three in a winning effort against the Indians.

Rogers first start of the season turned out to be a successful one, as the soon to be 29-year-old hurler was able to settle into a nice rhythm after the Yankees' staked him to a 5-1 advantage in the first frame. Rogers has now worked a total of nine innings since coming to the Pinstripers back on July 31 and has so far been a nice addition, surrendering just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts.

Rogers will start for the Yankees on Friday against the Indians.

He posted a 6.97 ERA and 1.69 WHIP out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, and hasn't started a major league game since 2013. He will get his opportunity to do so for the Yankees, a team with five starters currently on the disabled list.

It's not immediately clear if the Yankees plan on keeping him in their bullpen or assigning him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but given the glut of long relievers already on the major league squad, bet on the latter.
