Smith signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Tuesday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
With Ian Thomas called up to the big club, the Braves had a hole on their Triple-A roster, so they went out and signed Smith for depth. The 31-year-old lefty has posted a 4.43 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 378:188 K:BB in parts of eight seasons at the Triple-A level.

Angels signed LHP Greg Smith to a minor league contract.
It's not clear whether he's been given a spring training invite. Smith spent all of 2011 at Triple-A in the Yankees and Red Sox organizations, posting a 4.52 ERA over 17 games -- 14 starts. The 28-year-old was once a decent prospect but is organizational filler at this point.

Sat Aug 20 201110:01Greg Smith signed by Red Sox
Red Sox signed LHP Greg Smith to a minor league contract.
Smith was evidently released by the Yankees earlier this week and signed on quickly with Boston, tossing seven innings of one-run ball for Triple-A Pawtucket Friday. He'll provide left-handed organizational depth but is unlikely to make it up to the big club. It's been a precipitous fall for the 27-year-old lefty, as just three years ago Smith was one of the key pieces dealt from Oakland to Colorado in the Matt Holliday deal.

Mon May 17 201009:35Rockies may start Greg Smith on Wednesday
The Rockies may turn back to Greg Smith for a spot-start Wednesday.
The Rockies' schedule has been thrown out of whack in the past few days due to rainouts and injuries, and an emergency starter is needed for Wednesday's game against the Astros. Smith had a 6.35 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP over seven starts before he was relegated to the bullpen last week. He's probably not worth trying in mixed leagues, even against the light-hitting Astros.

Sat May 15 201011:47Smith moves to Rockies' bullpen
Greg Smith is set to move from the Rockies' rotation to their bullpen after the arrival of starters Jason Hammel and Jeff Francis.
Smith hasn't been outstanding as a starter, but isn't the worst replacement starter we've ever seen. The Rockies can certainly do with an improvement on the 6.35 ERA and 1.85 WHIP he gave them over his seven starts, but if Francis or Hammel prove to be worse, Smith can always move back into the starting spot.

Greg Smith yielded two runs over seven innings in an 11-3 win over the Mets on Tuesday night.
Smith scattered six hits -- including a home run -- while walking two and striking out eight, two shy of his career-high. He also doubled and drove in two runs. It was his first win since September 6. 2008 as a member of the Athletics. The left-hander has a 5.25 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 13/4 K/BB ratio over his first two starts. He'll likely get a couple more turns until Jeff Francis is ready to return from the disabled list.
Tue Apr 6 201023:31Smith gets pounded in loss to Brewers
Greg Smith yielded five runs in five innings in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Brewers.
Smith had a great spring and pushed his way into Colorado's early-season rotation, but he was hit hard by Milwaukee, allowing two home runs and taking the loss. The left-hander missed most of last year after coming over from the A's in the Matt Holliday trade, so rough patches are to be expected.
