Tue Apr 19 202209:40Jake Arrieta Announces Retirement
Veteran starting pitcher Jake Arrieta announced his retirement from the MLB on Monday. He made the announcement as a guest on the Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take, saying, "I haven't signed the papers, man, but I'm done. It's time for me to step away from the game." The 36-year-old spent 12 years in the majors. He came up with the Baltimore Orioles but had his biggest impact during his time with the Chicago Cubs. He claimed the 2015 NL Cy Young award after going 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA and a 0.865 WHIP. He finishes his career with 115 wins and a 3.98 ERA.

Tue Sep 21 202121:41Padres Designate Jake Arrieta For Assignment
The San Diego Padres have designated Jake Arrieta for assignment on Tuesday, all but ending his brief tenure with the club. Arrieta signed with the Padres on August 16 after the Chicago Cubs let him go earlier in the year. In 24 starts this season, he owns a 7.39 ERA with an ugly 17.7 K% and 1.77 WHIP. He's been even worse on the west coast, pitching to a 10.95 ERA across four appearances. If he gets another chance with a team and makes the big league club, there's no reason for fantasy managers to pay any attention to the right-hander. In a corresponding move, the Padres activated pitcher Javy Guerra from the 60-day injured list.

Mon Sep 20 202108:20Jake Arrieta Exits Sunday's Start With Groin Strain
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jake Arrieta (groin) had a rough and extremely brief outing against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. He faced just six batters before he was pulled with a right adductor groin strain. He allowed three hits and one walk and he was charged with a total of five runs (four earned) over 1/3 of an inning. The veteran recently spent time on the injured list due to a strained left hamstring. It seems like there's a good chance he'll be heading back to the injured list once again. Arrieta signed with the Padres in mid-August. Over four starts with the team, he has gone 0-3 with a 10.95 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP.

Fri Sep 3 202120:36Jake Arrieta Activated, Taking The Mound Friday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jake Arrieta (hamstring) has been activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's game against the Houston Astros. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since August 18. He made one start for the Padres and was lifted after getting hit around and landed on the injured list. Arrieta was horrendous before joining the Padres. He is a poor streaming choice and isn't worth the gamble for DFS contests on Friday.

Fri Aug 20 202120:59Jake Arrieta Placed On Injured List With Hamstring Strain
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jake Arrieta (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a left hamstring strain, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. Arrieta had exited his start on Wednesday with what was described as a mild hamstring strain, as he lasted only 3 1/3 innings in his first outing with San Diego. He hadn't looked very good prior to the injury allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk and at this point there's no reason he should be rostered in any format.

Wed Aug 18 202121:09Jake Arrieta Exits Padres Debut With Hamstring Strain
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jake Arrieta (hamstring) exited his first start with the team on Wednesday with a mild left hamstring strain, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. Arrieta was seen grabbing at his hamstring shortly after allowing a fourth-inning home run to Rockies catcher Dom Nunez, and would exit after allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three over 3 1/3 innings of work in his Padres debut. This has been the worst season of Arrieta's career, as he entered Wednesday with a 5-11 record, 6.88 ERA and 1.761 WHIP over 86 1/3 innings pitched. At this point there's no fantasy value to be found in Arrieta's arm, and he should be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Mon Aug 16 202112:31Padres Nearing Deal With Jake Arrieta
The San Diego Padres appear close to signing former CY Young award winner Jake Arrieta. Sadly, the days of Arrieta being an elite pitcher are far behind him. He posted a horrendous 6.88 ERA over 20 starts with the Chicago Cubs this season. The right-hander was released by the organization last week. The Padres could certainly use rotational help with Yu Darvish (back) currently sidelined. However, it's uncertain how much help Arrieta can offer any MLB team right now. Arrieta won't likely be a fantasy option in any formats regardless of where he signs.

Thu Aug 12 202115:13Jake Arrieta Placed On Unconditional Release Waivers
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta was placed on unconditional release waivers on Thursday, according to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic. This move comes on the heels of a poor outing on Wednesday in which he allowed eight runs on 11 hits and two walks over four innings of work against the Brewers. He's struggled all year long with a 5-11 record, 6.88 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across 86 1/3 innings of work. He hasn't really been worth rostering this season, and this move is the final nail in the coffin of any slight potential for fantasy value.

Thu Aug 12 202101:06Jake Arrieta Gets Crushed
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta had another rough outing on Wednesday versus the Milwaukee Brewers. Arrieta got crushed right out of the gate and allowed seven runs in the top of the first inning. The Cubs needed some innings out of their starter, so Arrieta remained in the game and would finish with a line of 11 hits, eight runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Arrieta has been on the decline all season and with pitcher Keegan Thompson getting stretched out in Triple-A, it's fair to wonder if Arrieta will remain in the rotation for the rebuilding Cubs. Arrieta falls to 5-11 and now owns a dismal 6.88 ERA. The veteran will look for better results versus the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. He should be avoided in all formats.

Thu Aug 5 202119:49Jake Arrieta Continues To Struggle
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta continued his struggles on Thursday versus the Colorado Rockies. Arrieta earned a no-decision and only lasted four innings in the contest. The veteran allowed nine hits, four runs, zero walks and struck out two on the afternoon. Three of the four runs by the Rockies came off of solo home runs. The veteran has been having a rough season in his return to the Cubs. Pitching prospects Keegan Thompson and Justin Steele have been getting stretched out in Triple-A Iowa for the Cubs and with the team selling off most of their star players at the trade deadline, it makes sense to start the youth movement and possibly move on from Arrieta or put him on the bullpen. Arrieta is 5-10 with a rough 6.34 ERA heading into Tuesday's contest versus the Milwaukee Brewers and should be avoided in all formats.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta picked up his 10th loss of the season in his return from the injured list on Friday versus the Washington Nationals. Arrieta made his first start since July 7 and went four innings. The veteran allowed six hits, two runs, one walk and struck out three. Arrieta has a rough season for the Cubs and is now 5-10 with a 6.20 ERA. Arrieta will look to get back into the win column in a favorable matchup versus the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. Despite the favorable matchup, Arrieta should remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

Wed Jul 7 202119:28Cubs place struggling Arrieta on IL with hamstring tightness
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs placed struggling right-hander Jake Arrieta on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right hamstring tightness and recalled righty Cory Abbott from Triple-A Iowa. In a 15-10 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday, Arrieta matched the second-shortest start of his big league career, lasting just 1 2/3 innings for his second straight outing. He gave up seven runs, tying a season high, and six hits after getting hit hard in Chicago’s 15-7 loss at Milwaukee last week. The 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner is 0-5 with a 9.67 ERA in eight starts since winning at Pittsburgh on May 25. For the season, Arrieta is 5-9 with a 6.30 ERA in 17 starts. Chicago manager David Ross said Wednesday that a stint on the IL will give the 35-year-old Arrieta a chance to address the hamstring issue that has been bothering him since late May. “I think he thinks he’s fine, but something’s going on with the way he’s pitching,” Ross said. “I think it’s best if we just take care of that and make sure that...
