Thu Sep 11 201416:23Wheeler outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday
Wheeler was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Wheeler once held some promise as a prospect while coming up through the Diamondbacks' system, but it appears his promising numbers in the minors were merely a creation of the Pacific Coast League. He's never experienced much success during his time in the big leagues, producing a .233/.280/.335 line in 225 career plate appearances.
Mon Sep 8 201411:32Wheeler designated for assignment by Angels on Monday
Wheeler was designated for assignment by the Angels on Monday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Orange County Register reports.
Wheeler was designated for assignment to make room for Jairo Diaz on the active roster. The 25-year-old third baseman hit just .232/.281/.375 with the Rockies in 31 games this season, before being designated for assignment and subsequently claimed by the Angels. He hit .326/.373/.402 over 25 games with Triple-A Salt Lake, but it wasn't enough to keep him on the Angels' 40-man roster.
Sat Aug 2 201414:49Wheeler claimed off waivers by Angels
Wheeler has been claimed off waivers by the Angels, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Landing in another organization with adequate depth on the corners, it's unclear how the Angels are going to make the pieces fit on their 25-man roster with the addition of Wheeler.
Thu Jul 31 201413:18Wheeler designated for assignment Thursday
Wheeler was designated for assignment Thursday.
Wheeler has crushed pitching at Triple-A for much of the last two seasons, but his production at the major league level has been far less encouraging, with the 25-year-old owning a .233/.284/.335 line over 206 career at-bats. No longer viewed as much of a long-term asset now that he's 26 years old, the Rockies will try to pass him through waivers and stash him as organizational corner-infield depth.

Fri Jun 27 201400:08Wheeler's grand slam not enough for Rockies
Ryan Wheeler went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Thursday's loss to the Brewers.
Wheeler blasted a go-ahead grand slam in the fourth inning off of Wily Peralta, giving the Rockies a 4-3 lead, but it wasn't a lead the Rockies would maintain. Wheeler has had scant playing time since being recalled on June 4, but he has a .273/.333/.485 slash line with two home runs and 12 RBI in 39 plate appearances.

Rockies recalled INF Ryan Wheeler from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Wheeler was 2-for-4 in a short stay with the Rockies earlier this season. The 25-year-old will serve as infield depth in his second stint with the big-league club. He could see regular playing time at third base while Nolan Arenado (finger) is sidelined, but isn't worth consideration outside of deep NL-only fantasy formats.

Thu Apr 25 201317:14Rockies expected to call up Ryan Wheeler
The Rockies are expected to recall infielder Ryan Wheeler from Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to Thursday's game.
This presumably means that the Rockies could finally place Todd Helton (forearm) on the disabled list. Wheeler, who was acquired from the Diamondbacks over the winter, is hitting .348/.407/.565 with two home runs and a .973 OPS over his first 15 games with the Sky Sox this season. Some thought that a DL move involving Helton could mean that Tyler Colvin could find his way back to the majors, but that's apparently not going to happen.

Ryan Wheeler had a chance to make the Opening Day roster due to his defensive versatility, but it appears the Rockies are content with Eric Young in a utility role. None of these players project to hold any fantasy value in the 2013 season.

Mon Oct 24 201121:14Ryan Wheeler officially moves to third base
Diamondbacks prospect Ryan Wheeler is learning to play third base after spending the majority of his time there in 2011.
"First base is pretty clogged up right now, especially with Paul [Goldschmidt] just getting there," Wheeler said. "I want to make it to the big leagues as a third baseman. I know that I need to get better. I want to get there and stay there as a third baseman." Wheeler is committed to third base despite committing 19 errors there in 2011. Though he's known as a high-average hitter, his power numbers improved at Double-A Mobile with 16 home runs in 480 at-bats. Wheeler has enough talent to potentially make an impact down the line for the Diamondbacks and may even get a chance in 2012. If he does get a look, it'll be more for his hitting than defense.
