Lopez appeared in four games with the Cubs in 2012 and posted a 5.28 ERA and 55/26 K/BB ratio in 73 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level. He won't be an option for the major league roster with the Phillies, but should serve as an insurance policy for John Lannan in the minors.

Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Rodrigo Lopez from Triple-A Iowa.

Tue Mar 20 201218:47Rodrigo Lopez looks good against A's
Rodrigo Lopez held the Athletics in check Tuesday, limiting them to one run on three hits and a walk over five innings.
He also recorded four strikeouts. A non-roster invitee, Lopez entered camp hoping to win a long relief spot, but he's thrust himself into the No. 5 starter conversation with a 2.25 ERA and 9/1 K/BB ratio over 12 innings. Ultimately, he'll still likely be left in a relief role.

Sat Sep 24 201116:08Lopez handed no-decision vs. Cardinals
Rodrigo Lopez spun six shutout innings in a tough-luck no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Lopez held the Cardinals to just four hits, all of them singles, while walking a pair and striking out just one. He was in line for the victory until Carlos Marmol blew the lead in the bottom of the ninth. The veteran right-hander is still a home run machine, but was fairly useful as a swingman for the Cubs this season, posting a 4.71 ERA and 53/27 K/BB over 91 2/3 innings. He'll almost certainly have to settle for another minor league contract this winter.

Sat Sep 17 201116:39Lopez goes six innings in win over 'Stros
Rodrigo Lopez allowed just an unearned run over six innings in Saturday's win over the Astros.
Lopez held the Astros to four hits, three of them singles, while striking out a season-high seven and walking a pair. The solid outing improved his ERA to 4.74 on the year. The veteran right-hander shouldn't be trusted in fantasy leagues, though.

Mon Sep 12 201123:19Lopez allows four home runs in 'win'
Rodrigo Lopez allowed five runs on nine hits, including four home runs, in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday, but still managed to improve to 5-6 in Chicago's 12-8 win over the Reds in Cincinnati.
Some "win." He struck out four. Lopez has now allowed 18 home runs in just 86 innings of work this season. He'll bring a 5.04 ERA and 1.55 WHIP into his Saturday start against the Astros.

Rodrigo Lopez allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings on Monday, improving to 4-3 in Chicago's 4-3 win in Houston.
Lopez has now allowed just five runs (three earned) in 11 innings of work over his past two starts after giving up six runs in back-to-back outings on July 30 and August 4. He'll take a 4.66 ERA and 1.41 WHIP into his Sunday matchup against the Cardinals.

Wed Aug 10 201123:37Rodrigo Lopez picks up third win
Rodrigo Lopez held the Nationals to five hits and two runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday, moving to 3-3 in a 4-2 Cubs victory at home.
He struck out four and walked none. A much needed effort for Lopez, who had allowed 12 runs on 15 hits in just 8 1/3 innings over his past two starts. Now the owner of a 4.78 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, he'll get the Astros in Houston his next time out.

Sat Jul 30 201119:09Lopez gives up six runs in loss to Cards
Rodrigo Lopez was tagged for six runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.
Ugly. Lopez gave up two runs in the bottom of the first and was charged with four of the eight runs scored by the Cardinals in the fifth. He allowed eight hits (including a two-run homer to Albert Pujols) while walking three and striking out two. The veteran right-hander has actually pitched fairly decently since joining the Cubs, but Saturday's outing served as a reminder that he shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy roster.

Mon Jul 18 201123:29Rodrigo Lopez outlasts Roy Halladay
Rodrigo Lopez held the Phillies to one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings on Monday evening, outlasting an overheated Roy Halladay in a 6-1 Cubs victory in steamy Chicago.
He struck out three and walked none, with his only mistake coming in the fourth inning, where he served up a solo home run to Jimmy Rollins. Lopez has now turned in quality outings in all three of his July starts, making him at least worth a look in NL-only leagues.

Fri Jul 8 201122:53Lopez solid again
Rodrigo Lopez put together another solid start Friday, giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings in a loss to the Pirates.
The start comes after Lopez tossed seven shutout innings against the White Sox. As long as he's able to avoid the home run ball -- or at least only surrender solo shots like he did to Andrew McCutchen Friday - Lopez throws enough strikes that he can be somewhat useful. He walks a fine line, though, and will be prone to blowups.

Sun Jul 3 201117:28Rodrigo Lopez baffles White Sox
Rodrigo Lopez went from sieve to sphinx on Sunday, allowing just two hits in seven scoreless innings of work in the Cubs' 3-1 win over the White Sox at home.
He struck out two while walking none. Lopez owned a 5.40 ERA and 1.85 WHIP through 18 1/3 innings coming into this afternoon, but saw those numbers drop to 3.91 and 1.42, respectively. The sterling outing has certainly bought him some more time in the Cubs rotation, but he remains somebody you should avoid in NL-only leagues for the time being.

Fri Jul 1 201109:00Rodrigo Lopez to start Sunday
Cubs manager Mike Quade confirmed that Rodrigo Lopez will start Sunday against the White Sox.
It's the spot vacated by Doug Davis, who was released Wednesday. Lopez has a 5.40 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over 11 games -- two starts -- for the Cubbies this season, but he was terrific for Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves organization this year, posting a 2.59 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 59 frames. He should be avoided as a fantasy option.

Fri Jun 3 201108:40Cubs skipping Rodrigo Lopez's next start
The Cubs will skip right-hander Rodrigo Lopez his next time through the rotation, which was scheduled for Sunday.
The Cubs will instead go with Carlos Zambrano for the finale of their three-game set with the Cardinals. According to beat writer Paul Sullivan, manager Mike Quade made the move because he thinks winning a series against rival St. Louis would help restore some of Chicago's confidence after their recently concluded 3-6 homestand. The move was made possible by a Thursday off-day.
