Peja Stojakovic has announced his retirement from the NBA at age 34.

He says he is going out on a "championship high" after his back and banged up body let him know it was time to shut it down. Shawn Marion and Lamar Odom will continue to battle for minutes at small forward.

Peja Stojakovic is reportedly considering an offer from the Greek team PAOK.

PAOK hope that Stojakovic will help them qualify for the group stage of the EuroLeague, and they are also in talks with Corey Maggette. Peja is a free agent and could therefore sign a deal without an NBA-out clause, though (fresh off winning a championship) he has indicated that he's not ready to retire from the NBA.

Stojakovic performed better than expected after joining the Mavs, averaging 8.6 points in 25 games while playing 20.2 minutes. But at age 34, Peja can't guard anyone or make plays for his teammates. The Mavs may be forced to move on.

Peja Stojakovic is scoreless in the Finals and played just five minutes in Game 2 -- even Brian Cardinal played ahead of him in the second half.

The blame doesn't fall entirely on Stojakovic, who has been part of offensively-challenged second-unit lineups and whose primary function is drifting into a corner to spread the defense. He continues to get abused defensively, however, which is more likely to keep him off the court.

Peja Stojakovic turned back the clock to his Sacramento days in the Mavs' Game 2 win on Tuesday, hitting a playoff career-high five 3-pointers on his way to 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench.

There really is no excuse to leave him as wide open as he was, and if the Blazers continue to do it, then Peja can easily rack up numbers like these. We doubt he'll make it through the scouting report for Game 3, however, without a highlighter being applied to his name vociferously.

Shawn Marion (nine points, four rebounds) continues to start at small forward for the Mavs, but these two have become a classic timeshare. Neither is consistent enough to use regularly, but Peja has some value as a 3-point specialist.

He has made nine 3's in the two games played since returning. He still projects to average 16-to-22 minutes a game, which means he is just as likely to score six points with one trey in the next game.

DeShawn Stevenson started tonight against the small, quick Warriors. But going forward, we'd expect Peja to start and play around 20 minutes on most nights. It's enough for him to make a couple treys, but expecting anything more is unrealistic. Peja was averaging 8.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists with the Mavs this season before tonight.

Peja Stojakovic (neck) will make a return to the Mavs lineup on Sunday when the Mavs play against the Warriors.

With Shawn Marion (wrist) out, Stojakovic could have a good day. If you need a last minute 3-point option, Stojakovic would be a decent choice.

Peja's latest injury is just furthering his reputation as one of the softer players around. This "stiff neck" looks like it's going to cost him a couple weeks. Shawn Marion is benefiting.

Stojakovic has missed three games already, and fantasy owners shouldn't be expecting him to have value -- even healthy, the Mavs have too many options at SG/SF for Peja to make much of an impact.

No word yet on the severity of his injuries, but look for the Mavs to play it cautious with the veteran sharpshooter. Corey Brewer is one possible candidate to start in his place, while Roddy Beaubois could also see an increase in minutes if the Mavs opt to go small.

Eight Mavericks played 20 or more minutes in the easy win, but this is becoming a fantasy black hole, as Rick Carlisle's rotation is too deep to be fantasy friendly. J.J. Barea had 13 points and five assists, Roddy Beaubois had 10 points, four assists and two threes, while Shawn Marion and Jason Terry also played well while logging 20-something minutes off the bench. Just be prepared for some inconsistency from your Mavericks as Carlisle plays as many of them as possible from night to night. Dirk Nowitzki, who had 23 points, was the only player to play 30 minutes tonight (31).

Peja Stojakovic started again for the Mavericks on Thursday and scored 10 points to go with two 3's, two rebounds, and two steals.

This is probably what we can expect from him most nights, which makes him a usable low-end option.

"That's my preference,'' said Stojakovic, a 13-year veteran. "But it depends on how I feel physically. If I can play another year (in the NBA), that'd be great.'' For now, he's just trying to get his rhythm back after missing almost eight weeks due to a knee injury.

We still aren't sure what Rick Carlisle's fascination is with running Peja out there in the starting unit, but that is his plan for now. Keep an eye on Peja, but he's far from a must-own player until he proves he's fully healthy.

Beat writer Jeff Caplan confirms that Peja Stojakovic has taken over as the Mavs' starting small forward.

This sounds nice, but it's nothing to get overly excited about. Sasha Pavlovic and Brian "The Janitor" Cardinal have held the starting gig before Peja, simply holding the spot until Jason Terry and Shawn Marion come in. Stojakovic will make some treys, but he's a poor bet to top 25 minutes a night at any point this season. There's not much upside here despite the starter's tag.

Peja Stojakovic made his Mavs debut in the Mavs' 99-96 win over the Cavs on Monday, scoring eight points on 3-of-9 shooting (1-of-6 from downtown) with five rebounds and no other statistics in 20 minutes of action.

This is a pretty good idea of what to expect, though the threes will obviously start falling, and unless you're desperate for the long-ball he is best left on the wire.
