Wed Apr 13 201105:10Augenstein headed to DL
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Bryan Augenstein (right groin strain) will be placed on the disabled list prior to Wednesday's game.
"I don't know if my foot got caught or not, but I felt a little twinge," Augenstein said. "I just thought because the mound, there was a little hole or whatever. And then the pitch when I threw it, the second one, it just went." The young reliever was having a mediocre start to the season before Tuesday night's blow-up, when he gave up four earned runs to the Diamondbacks in 1 2/3 innings. The injury likely had something to do with it.

Wed Mar 23 201115:44Cards' Augenstein perfect for 1 2/3
Bryan Augenstein picked up a win in relief after retiring all five batters he faced Wednesday against the Mets.
Augenstein is trying to overtake either Miguel Batista or Fernando Salas in the competition for bullpen spots. He's making a strong case with his 0.93 ERA, but he's probably still something of an underdog, particularly since the Cards have been shopping for relief help.
