Tue Nov 11 201416:22Santonio Holmes: Waived By Chicago
Holmes was waived by the Bears on Tuesday, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The veteran wideout's role in the Bears' offense had all but evaporated -- he had been targeted just once since Week 5 -- and with Marquess Wilson (collarbone) seemingly close to a return, Holmes was deemed expendable. The 30-year-old Holmes caught eight passes for 67 yards in nine games with Chicago, and still has just two touchdowns since 2011.

Holmes hauled in his lone target for 11 yards in Sunday's 55-14 loss to the Packers.
Holmes reception came one play after Brandon Marshall suffered an ankle injury early in the fourth quarter. The severity of Marshall's injury isn't known at this time, but if the ailment ends up keeping him out of action next Sunday against the Vikings, Holmes see his first extended action of the season on offense. He's largely gone ignored in the passing game with Marshall and Alshon Jeffery active for all nine of the Bears' nine games, accumulating only eight receptions for 67 yards.

Holmes wasn't targeted in Sunday's 51-23 loss to the Patriots.
Those who drafted Holmes in deeper leagues with the hope that his signing with the Bears would help revive a stalled career have probably cut bait by now. He's caught just seven passes for 56 yards on the season and hasn't seen a target in the last three weeks. Holmes offers most of his contributions these days on special teams as the Bears' punt returner.

Holmes didn't receive a target in Sunday's win over the Falcons.
It was the second time in three weeks that Holmes failed to register a single target. Josh Morgan seems to have moved ahead of Holmes as the Bears' preferred No. 3 receiver, but it's not a role that should bear much fruit while Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall remain healthy. Holmes will see most of his usage on special teams, where he serves as the team's punt returner.

Holmes caught one pass for six yards in Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Panthers.
The Bears' third receiver role continues to remain a difficult one to assess, as Holmes and Josh Morgan have seemed to alternate their usage over the last three games. After Holmes failed to log a single target to Morgan's four in the previous week's loss to the Packers, the two receivers flip-flopped against the Panthers, as Holmes saw three to Morgan's none. Regardless, with all of Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Marshall, Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte seeing the overwhelming majority of looks in the passing game, there's barely any room for either Holmes or Morgan to carve out much fantasy utility.

Holmes didn't log a single target in the passing game Sunday against the Packers.
Holmes appeared to have locked down the No. 3 receiver job after outpacing Josh Morgan in both targets and snaps when both were active in last week's win over the Jets, but that may no longer be the case. The two receivers flipped the script Sunday, as it was Morgan who saw four targets to Holmes' none, racking up 24 yards and nearly coming away with a touchdown. It will probably be difficult to get a read on whether Morgan or Holmes is viewed as the team's third receiver until coach Marc Trestman offers more clarity on the matter, so for now, it's probably best not to invest in either option too heavily.

Holmes caught two passes for nine yards on three targets in Monday's 27-19 win over the Jets.
Holmes saw a decent amount of the field, but as one would expect, he ranked fifth on the team in targets, trailing Alshon Jeffery (13), Martellus Bennett (eight), Matt Forte (seven) and Brandon Marshall). Holmes is the fifth option in a passing game that has four very talented players, but he's at least ahead of Josh Morgan for the No. 3 wide receiver role.

Holmes caught two balls for 20 yards in Sunday's win over the 49ers.
Heading into Sunday's game, Holmes looked as though he would have a chance at starting with Brandon Marshall (ankle) and Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) both beat up, but both ended up resuming their regular roles and saw mostly full workloads. Holmes was once again just left with picking up the scraps as the No. 3 receiver, muting most of his fantasy impact. Assuming Marshall and Jeffery remain healthy, Holmes' role in the offense doesn't figure to change.

If Brandon Marshall (ankle) or Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) miss Sunday's game against San Francisco, Holmes would likely step in as a starter.
Holmes was an unwanted free agent for most of the offseason, but that had little to do with his talent level. Holmes can probably produce if he gets a big enough opportunity, so he's a player to watch if one of the star Chicago wideouts sit Sunday. Owners of Marshall and Jeffery in particular will want Holmes on speed dial.

Holmes caught three passes and gained 21 yards in Sunday's loss to the Bills.
It wasn't completely clear that Holmes had earned the Bears' No. 3 receiving role after an abbreviated training camp, but the distributions of targets in Sunday's game seemed to verify as much, as Holmes saw five looks to Josh Morgan's three. Even so, a clear hierarchy exists among the Bears' receiving corps as all of Brandon Marshall, Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte doubled up Holmes in targets, and Alshon Jeffery likely would have as well had he not left early with a hamstring injury. For now, Holmes will have to settle for the scraps in the receiving game, while also serving as the punt returner for the Bears.

Holmes hauled in a 32-yard touchdown pass in Thursday's preseason finale against the Browns.
The touchdown demonstrated that Holmes still has something to offer as a vertical threat, eluding first-round pick Justin Gilbert on the scoring route. In addition, Holmes was surprisingly used as a punt returner, providing a 30-yard run back in the second quarter. Holmes' extensive experience as a receiver and ability to contribute on special teams probably locks him in as the Bears' No. 4 wideout entering the regular season, and it might not be long before he pushes Josh Morgan for No. 3 duties.

Holmes caught one pass for seven yards on two targets in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks.
Holmes, who was signed last week, saw both of his targets in the third quarter while working with the second-team offense. Josh Morgan served as the No. 3 wideout with the first team, catching three passes for 48 yards on five targets. Holmes will likely play again next week, and he appears to have some catching up to do.
Sat Aug 16 201410:38Santonio Holmes: Agrees To Deal With Bears
Holmes has agreed to terms on a contract with the Bears, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The Bears brought Holmes in for a workout last week, and after mulling it over for a while, the team has decided he's worth the risk. Holmes, now 30, hauled in just 23-of-59 targets for 456 yards and one score in 11 games with the Jets last season, but his experience alone may give him the edge over Eric Weems and Josh Morgan in the competition for looks out of the slot. Marquees Wilson (collarbone) is out indefinitely.
Tue Aug 5 201418:11Holmes worked out for Bears on Tuesday
Holmes worked out for the Bears on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
There hasn't been any talk surrounding Holmes since the Jets released him in March, but the Bears have a need for wide receiver depth in light of No. 3 WR Marquess Wilson's broken collarbone. The Bears appear to have no plan to sign Holmes at this particular time, however, according to Schefter.
Mon Jul 14 201409:07Santonio Holmes still on the street
ESPN's John Clayton believes free agent Santonio Holmes will have to wait for an injury in training camp to get signed.
Holmes is just 30 years old and says he's healthy, but has garnered zero known interest since the Jets released him in early March. It speaks volumes about both his on-field decline and detrimental attitude in the locker room. During four seasons with the Jets, Holmes totaled 2,128 yards.

Sat Jun 14 201410:33Holmes working out, waiting for a call
Free agent WR Santino Holmes is still hopeful he will find a team during training camp.
The 30-year-old Holmes has heard nary a whisper of interest since he was released by the Jets in March. Holmes has struggled with injuries the last two seasons, only playing 15 games and recording 43 catches over that span. He insists he is healthy now and ready to contribute. Even if he finds a home Holmes will be well off the fantasy radar this season.

Tue May 20 201417:49Steelers not interested in Holmes reunion
ESPN's Scott Brown reports the Steelers haven't shown "any interest" in a reunion with free agent Santonio Holmes.
Speaking in a Tuesday radio interview, Steelers CB Ike Taylor said both Holmes and free agent James Harrison are interested in returning to the Steel City, but the feeling isn't mutual. Now on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a star-crossed tenure with the Jets, Holmes has been greeted by crickets on the open market.

Mon May 12 201420:36Browns to 'monitor' Holmes, Miles Austin?
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport mentions free agents Santonio Holmes and Miles Austin as names for Browns fans to monitor in the wake of Josh Gordon's suspension.
It's unclear if the Browns have actually reached out to the two veterans, but they're two of the better free agent receivers available. Holmes knows coach Mike Pettine from their days together in New York. He flashed signs of the old Santonio at times last season but may not be worth the distraction. Austin has next to nothing left and can't stay on the field. Gordon's expected ban is 8-16 games.

Tue Apr 8 201419:53Report: Santonio Holmes will sign after draft
Profootballtalk reports free agent Santonio Holmes is expected to wait until after the draft to choose a new team.
It's the first we've heard of Holmes since he was released on the eve of free agency. Holmes' market has been positively frigid, and the fact that he's "waiting" to sign is an indication he expects it to remain so. The fact that there's essentially no interest in a 30-year-old wideout with injury and attitude issues is supremely unsurprising.

Mon Mar 10 201415:08Jets finally cut Holmes, save $8.25 million
Jets released WR Santonio Holmes.
It was always only a matter of when, not if, Gang Green cut Holmes. He was due a $1 million roster bonus on Thursday. The move creates $8.25 million in cap space, but also leaves behind $2.5 million in dead money. Now on the wrong side of 30, Holmes has grown increasingly injury prone, and proven to be a slow healer. His effort had become a question mark. Holmes has just 43 catches for 728 yards and two touchdowns over his past 15 games. Holmes' name is bigger than his game. He's had one 1,000-yard season in eight years. He's not going to burn up the open market.
