Felipe Lopez is expected to play in China this season.

Sun Aug 21 201116:47Brewers DFA Felipe Lopez
Brewers designated INF Felipe Lopez for assignment.
Everyone's least favorite utility man slashed an abysmal .182/.245/.182 over 44 at-bats with the Brew Crew. He may rejoin the team in September if he clears waivers, but will play primarily off the bench.

Fri Jul 29 201115:37Felipe Lopez promoted
Brewers purchased the contract of INF Felipe Lopez from Triple-A Nashville.
The Brew Crew originally were going to keep Lopez at Triple-A for a while and let him earn his way up, but they've reversed course. With Rickie Weeks out for at least a couple weeks and Craig Counsell in the midst of an embarrassing slump, Lopez will get a shot at some playing time at second base.

Fri Jul 29 201109:10Felipe Lopez will go to Triple-A first
Brewers GM Doug Melvin said the newly acquired Felipe Lopez will report to Triple-A Nashville initially but could be brought up soon.
"We want to think about what we want to do," Melvin said. "With a day game (Thursday), we haven't had time to sit down with (manager) Ron (Roenicke) and discuss all of our options. This gives us some depth in the infield. We could still bring him up." Melvin added that the Brewers will "mix and match and hope somebody gets hot" at second base while Rickie Weeks is out. He did not eliminate the possibility of making another trade, but the market is pretty grim. Craig Counsell, Josh Wilson and Eric Farris are the current options at the position.

Thu Jul 28 201115:24Brewers acquire Felipe Lopez from Rays
Brewers acquired INF Felipe Lopez from the Rays for cash considerations.
The Brewers might not be done shopping for infielders, but Lopez certainly represents an upgrade over Craig Counsell. The 31-year-old batted just .216 with two homers and eight RBI over 102 plate appearances with the Rays this season, but hit .320/.407/.448 with three homers and 35 RBI over 66 games down the stretch with the Brewers back in 2009. He'll hope for similar success this time around.

Tue May 3 201115:17Rays DFA Felipe Lopez
Rays designated 3B Felipe Lopez for assignment.
As expected. Lopez hit just .222/.263/.347 for the Rays and was benched at one point for not hustling. He probably won't accept an assignment to Triple-A Durham and will then have the option of testing free agency.

Sun May 1 201112:29Felipe Lopez expected to lose roster spot Tue
Felipe Lopez is expected to lose his spot on the roster if Evan Longoria (oblique) returns from DL as expected on Tuesday.
No surprise. Lopez is batting just .217/.250/.348 and has drawn the ire of Rays manager Joe Maddon on a few occasions due to his antics and lack of hustle. His spot on the roster could be saved only if Sean Rodriguez (finger) requires a DL stint, but that's not expected to happen.

Sat Apr 23 201100:42Rays' Lopez pulled for not hustling
Felipe Lopez was pulled from Friday's game in the middle of the 11th inning by manager Joe Maddon for a lack of hustle.
The Times' Mark Topkin reports that Lopez did not run hard to first on an 11th-inning ground ball that ended up being bobbled. It was the second time this week that Lopez failed to hustle. Unfortunately, it's par for the course for the 30-year-old and it's why he had to settle for a minor league contract over the winter. If he simply played up to his ability, he'd be making at least $5 million per year as some team's starting second baseman.

Sat Apr 9 201119:31Felipe Lopez homers in loss
Felipe Lopez hit a solo home run in the ninth inning of Tampa Bay's loss to the White Sox on Saturday.
In true "Flip" fashion, he then nearly instigated a brawl when he got in A.J. Pierzynski's face as he crossed home plate. He was evidently displeased with a Chris Sale pitch that came in on him earlier in the at-bat. With Manny Ramirez's sudden retirement, Lopez could be in line for more at-bats, and should at least be monitored in AL-only leagues.

Tue Apr 5 201120:04Lopez, Rodriguez to platoon at 3B
Rays manager Joe Maddon will use a platoon of Felipe Lopez and Sean Rodriguez at third base while Evan Longoria (oblique) is out.
In general, Lopez will face left-handers and Rodriguez right-handers. But, there will be exceptions, such as in the upcoming series against the White Sox, when the Rays will face John Danks and Gavin Floyd, both of whom have posted notable reverse-splits last season.

Sun Apr 3 201113:22Felipe Lopez added to roster
Rays purchased the contract of INF Felipe Lopez from Triple-A Durham.
Lopez was beaten out by Elliot Johnson for a utility role, but he didn't have to wait long before his first recall. With Evan Longoria out, he could get some time at third base, and he'll also back up at shortstop and second base.

Wed Mar 30 201114:21Lopez to report to Triple-A Durham
Felipe Lopez has agreed to report to Triple-A Durham.
Lopez was in the mix for a roster spot this spring, but the Rays ultimately decided to keep Eliot Johnson for the backup middle infielder job. He's useful depth to have at the minor league level.

Wed Feb 2 201115:40Rays ink Felipe Lopez to minor league deal
Rays signed INF Felipe Lopez to a minor league contract.
The contract also includes an invite to spring training. Lopez, 30, batted just .233/.311/.345 with eight homers, 37 RBI and eight stolen bases last season, but he is capable of playing all over the infield and has enjoyed some success in the past. He'll likely compete with Elliot Johnson for the backup middle infield job.

Wed Feb 2 201110:20Red Sox paid Lopez $15K buyout on option
According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com, the Red Sox paid Felipe Lopez a $15,000 buyout on his option for 2011.
The Red Sox declined the option in November and then offered him arbitration in hopes of obtaining a supplemental first-round draft pick. It looked like a brilliant maneuver by Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, but because Lopez is set to sign a minor league deal with the Rays, the club won't receive any compensation.

Tue Feb 1 201119:59Rays to sign Felipe Lopez to minors deal
According to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times, the Rays are expected to sign Felipe Lopez to a minor league contract "in the next couple of days."
Very interesting. The Red Sox would have received a supplemental first-round pick had Lopez signed a major league deal, so this works out pretty well for the division-rival Rays. Of course, the Red Sox could always go after the pick should he make the team's Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old Lopez batted .233/.311/.345 with eight homers, 37 RBI and eight stolen bases between the Cardinals and Red Sox last season.

Wed Dec 1 201000:04Felipe Lopez declines arb. offer from Sox
Felipe Lopez declined arbitration from the Red Sox.
A fine job of working the system by Red Sox GM Theo Epstein. Boston added Felipe Lopez for the final week of the 2010 regular season, knowing he would qualify as a Type B free agent this winter. Epstein and Co. will land a supplemental round draft pick when Lopez signs with another club.
