Fri Jul 22 201110:12Yankees re-sign Marcus Thames
Yankees signed OF Marcus Thames to a minor-league contract.
A solid role player for the Yankees a year ago, Thames hit just .197 with two home runs and seven RBI in 66 at-bats while battling calf and quad injuries as a member of the Dodgers this season. The owner of a career .260 average and .824 OPS against lefties, Thames should likely be up in New York at some point this summer as long as he can round back to full health.

Tue Jul 12 201114:21Dodgers DFA OF Marcus Thames
Dodgers designated OF Marcus Thames for assignment.
The Dodgers signed Thames to a one-year, $1 million contract this offseason with the hope that he'd mash left-handed pitching. Instead he struggled mightily in 70 plate appearances, missing about a month with a quad strain, and posting a .197/.243/.333 slash line with two homers when healthy. Thames could still be salvaged, however. Between 2006-2010, as a member of the Tigers and Yankees, he had an .820 OPS and 94 homers in 1,547 plate appearances. A team in desperate need of outfield punch might give him a shot.

Sun Jun 26 201111:43Marcus Thames might need DL stint
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated that Marcus Thames (calf) might have to be placed on the disabled list.
An MRI on Thames' calf was negative, and he probably doesn't need a full 15 days off, but Mattingly isn't sure he wants to carry him on the roster if all he can do is DH and pinch-hit. Thames is only able to run at about 75 percent. "I just have to know if I can use him," Mattingly said. "At this point, I don't think there's any way he can play in the field." The Dodgers should make a decision on Thames soon.

Tue Jan 18 201120:19Marcus Thames signing becomes official
Dodgers signed OF Marcus Thames to a one-year, $1 million contract.
He'll have the opportunity to earn more through incentives. Thames, who will turn 34 before the season starts, batted .288/.350/.491 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI over 212 at-bats with the Yankees this past season. He's better off as a DH since he's a butcher in the outfield, but he's a legitimate threat against left-handed pitching and should see plenty of at-bats against southpaws in 2011.
Mon Jan 17 201120:27Report: Dodgers reach agreement with Thames
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers have reached an agreement with free agent outfielder Marcus Thames.
According to Hernandez, the deal could be finalized as soon as Tuesday. Thames, who turns 34 in March, batted .288/.350/.491 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI over 212 at-bats with the Yankees this past season. We're not crazy about Thames playing in the outfield, but he has a legitimate chance at topping double-digit home runs again should he receive regular at-bats.

Mon Jan 17 201117:05Report: Dodgers have interest in Thames
According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, the Dodgers have interest in free agent outfielder Marcus Thames.
The Dodgers are still attempting to find some help for their outfield, primarily in left field. While Thames is coming off a productive season for the Yankees, he is a severe liability defensively. Likewise, he's best utilized against left-handed pitching. We wouldn't rule out a match with the Dodgers, but Thames is a far better fit in the American League.

Fri Dec 24 201013:20Yanks not expected to re-sign Marcus Thames
The Yankees are not expected to re-sign free agent Marcus Thames.
The Yanks are going to use Jorge Posada as their primary designated hitter in 2011 and need bench players that have a bit of defensive versatility. That's also why a deal with Manny Ramirez or Johnny Damon is said to be unlikely. Thames has drawn interest from Japanese clubs and the Orioles.

The Orioles have talked to the agent for Marcus Thames, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Thames has considered Japan, but it sounds like he'd prefer to remain in the U.S. If the Orioles sign him, it'd be a clear sign that they're not including Nolan Reimold in their plans for 2011.
