Anderson is making his first MLB start Monday, John Hickey of the Oakland Tribune reports.

He'll catch and bat ninth against the Angels after Stephen Vogt caught all three games over the weekend, but Vogt will retake his regular backstop duties Tuesday.

Anderson had his contract selected by the Athletics on Sunday from Triple-A Nashville.

Anderson has been hitting a .561 OPS as a 28-year-old from Triple-A, so don't expect much from the couple of weeks he's with the team. Day-to-day injuries to Stephen Vogt and Josh Phegley prompted his call-up, but he's the fourth catcher in the long view of things.

A spot on the 40-man roster had to be freed up with pitcher Taylor Thompson coming aboard via a waiver claim from the White Sox, and Anderson was the casualty. It likely wasn't a very difficult call for GM Billy Beane, as Anderson has continually hit the wall at Triple-A and seems destined to play out the rest of his career as organizational depth.
