Wed Jun 27 201220:37Nick Johnson exits with wrist injury
Nick Johnson left Wednesday's game with a right wrist injury.
It's a miracle that he's lasted this long without getting hurt. The bad news is that it's the same wrist Johnson has had multiple surgeries on, so there would seem to be a good chance that he'll require a disabled list stint.

Fri Apr 20 201205:30Nick Johnson 0-for-20 to start season
Nick Johnson went 0-for-4 against the White Sox on Thursday, as he continues to search for his first hit of the year.
He looked fine this spring, so the poor start is a little unexpected. The Orioles are hoping a healthy and efficient Johnson will bolster the middle of their batting order.

Fri Mar 9 201217:01Nick Johnson singles, walks three times
Nick Johnson reached all four times he was up Friday as the Orioles and Rays played to a 3-3 tie.
Johnson singled and walked three times. He's 2-for-6 with four walks so far this spring. The Orioles appear to be leaning towards keeping him around as a reserve. That makes him a little intriguing in AL-only leagues, but since he never figures to have the same power he once possessed, he only has so much upside.

Fri Mar 2 201209:28Nick Johnson likely to make team if healthy
Orioles manager Buck Showalter has indicated that Nick Johnson will likely make the Opening Day roster if he's healthy.
"If Nick is healthy and on the field, I think he's a contributor," Showalter said. "I think he brings some things that I'd really like to have our guys feed off of with some of the on-base percentage and deep counts." The O's brought Johnson in on a minor league deal last month, and if he does manage to stay healthy, he could steal some at-bats away from Chris Davis at first base. He batted just .201/.316/.332 with six home runs and 13 RBI over 216 plate appearances with the Indians' Triple-A affiliate last season but boasts a .401 career OBP.

Orioles signed 1B Nick Johnson to a minor league contract.
Johnson will also get a spring training invite. The oft-injured 33-year-old returned from wrist surgery last season and batted just .201/.316/.332 with six home runs, 13 RBI and a .648 OPS over 216 plate appearances with the Indians' Triple-A affiliate. While he's obviously no sure thing, he could find himself in the mix at first base if Chris Davis struggles.

Wed Feb 8 201216:52O's, Nick Johnson have talked minors deal
According to MASN's Roch Kubatko, the Orioles have discussed a minor league deal with Nick Johnson.
Johnson would probably prefer to sign with a better organization, but he has not attracted much interest on the open market this winter and may ultimately have to settle for a depth job with the O's. The 33-year-old batted just .201 with a .654 OPS in 225 plate appearances last season in the Indians' minor league system. He hasn't appeared in a big league game since 2010.

Tue Aug 30 201121:10Nick Johnson struggling in Triple-A
Nick Johnson is hitting just .208/.322/.343 over 209 plate appearances for Triple-A Columbus this season.
Originally signed as Matt LaPorta insurance, Johnson did not get the call to the big leagues on Monday when LaPorta was demoted. It's possible he'll be called up when rosters are expanded on Thursday, but the acquisition of Jim Thome has erased a lot of the need for Johnson in Cleveland.

Tue Jun 28 201121:56Nick Johnson dealing with wrist issues
Nick Johnson sat out Tuesday's game for Triple-A Columbus due to a wrist injury.
Johnson sat out Sunday's game with the injury and had to leave Monday's contest after it flared up on him. It's obviously a concern given that he's coming back from wrist surgery and is a notoriously slow healer. We'll provide additional details on his status when more is known.

Sat Jun 4 201110:36Nick Johnson to play four days a week
Nick Johnson (wrist) was playing four days a week at DH and first base in extended spring training and is expected to do the same with Double-A Akron.
Johnson will probably eventually work his way into play more games and should be promoted to Triple-A and possibly the big leagues at some point. He'll be paid $750,000 if he makes the big league club, and the Indians also hold a $2.75 million option on him for 2012, but he must be added to the major league roster by July 1 for that to go into effect.

Nick Johnson arrived at Indians camp Friday with a brace on his surgically-repaired right wrist.
Johnson just recently had the stitches removed from his February wrist surgery and probably won't be ready for live games for another several weeks. The 32-year-old inked a minor league contract with the Tribe on Monday afternoon and will act as a backup first baseman and designated hitter once he returns to full health.

Thu Mar 10 201109:59Johnson (wrist) to swing bat soon
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Nick Johnson (wrist) is "probably" at least three weeks away from swinging a bat.
Johnson officially signed a minor league deal with the Indians this week and is expected to report to camp this weekend. However, he's still obviously a while away from appearing in a game. Johnson underwent his his third operation within a year on his right wrist in February. The Indians will likely use him to back up Matt LaPorta at first base and Travis Hafner at desginated hitter once he's back to full strength. Johnson's contract includes an out-clause if he isn't in the majors by July 1.

Mon Mar 7 201114:15Indians ink Nick Johnson to minors deal
Indians signed 1B Nick Johnson to a minor league deal.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com had this bit of news last week, but the process of getting a physical and signing all the necessary paperwork took a while with the injury-prone Johnson. He hit just .167 and played only 24 games last year for the Yankees because of wrist issues. The Tribe will use him as a backup to Matt LaPorta at first base and Travis Hafner at designated hitter.

Sun Mar 6 201116:44GM: Indians still talking to Nick Johnson
Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said the team is still talking to free agent Nick Johnson.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported last week that Johnson had signed a minor league deal with the Indians. What's the holdup? Perhaps an extensive medical exam on the brittle Johnson. The 32-year-old hit just .167 in only 24 games last year due to wrist problems. He would give the Indians insurance for Matt LaPorta at first and Travis Hafner at DH, as well as serve as a pinch-hitter.

Tue Mar 1 201116:58Report: Nick Johnson signs with Indians
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Nick Johnson has signed a minor league deal with the Indians.
We've heard very little about Johnson all offseason, which isn't surprising given that the injury-prone 32-year-old hit just .167 in only 24 games due to wrist surgery. We're not sure what his health status is at the moment, but he gives the Tribe some insurance for Matt LaPorta at first base and Travis Hafner at DH. Of course, Johnson is closer to Bob's Insurance than Geico.
Thu Nov 4 201011:49Cubs interested in Nick Johnson?
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Cubs general manager Jim Hendry is focusing "on the likes" of free agent first baseman Nick Johnson this winter.
In other words, don't look for a big splash like Adam Dunn, or even the return of Derrek Lee. Johnson, 32, was limited to just 72 at-bats with the Yankees this season and underwent two surgeries on his right wrist. According to the report, there are indications that the Cubs could be interested if Johnson's medicals look good enough. He's a pretty big gamble, even with a low guarantee. Johnson might fit best as a DH in the American League at this point.
