Hawksworth retires owning a 4.07 ERA over 183 1/3 major league innings. He last pitched in the big leagues with the Dodgers in 2011. The right-hander now works with Boras Corp., the agency that represented him as a player.

The procedure was designed to correct a torn labrum and capsule in Hawksworth's throwing shoulder, and it apparently went off without a hitch. He'll need at least 12 months of recovery time, however, meaning the right-hander can probably be ruled out for the entire 2013 campaign.

Hawksworth underwent surgery in January to remove a bone spur and scar tissue from his throwing elbow, then had another procedure a few months later to clear up an infection around the surgical wound. And now he's having problems with his shoulder. The right-hander seems doubtful to pitch in the major leagues this year.

Blake Hawksworth will undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to clean up scar tissue and a bone spur in his right elbow.
Tony Jackson of ESPN Los Angeles reports that he'll need 4-6 weeks to recover. Hawksworth, who turns 29 in March, posted a 4.08 ERA and a 43/17 K/BB ratio over 53 innings with the Dodgers last season.

Blake Hawksworth pitched a perfect seventh inning in the Dodgers' 3-1 setback to the Phillies on Monday night.
Despite not pitching for nearly a month due to a groin injury, Hawksworth showed no ill effects, throwing eight of 12 pitches for strikes. His victims included Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino, so this certainly was a worthy test in his return to major league action.
