Tue Sep 16 201417:10The Giants placed Jernigan (foot) on injured reserve Tuesday
The Giants placed Jernigan (foot) on injured reserve Tuesday, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
The nature of Jernigan's injury is uncertain, but it seems likely that it occurred in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. He will not need surgery to repair his "mid-foot sprain," but he is still facing a lengthy recovery timetable, and his season is officially over. Julian Talley was added from the practice squad to take Jernigan's spot on the roster.
Mon Sep 15 201415:01Jernigan being evaluated for mid-foot sprain
Jernigan is being evaluated for a mid-foot sprain, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.
Jernigan, who caught two passes for 15 yards on two targets Sunday against the Cardinals, thus looks iffy, at best, for Week 3's contest against the Texans.

Jernigan caught four passes (on seven targets) for 25 yards in Monday's Week 1 loss to the Lions.
Jernigan currently occupies the Giants' No. 3 wideout position, since rookie Odell Beckham (hamstring) remains far behind schedule due to injury. While his final totals from Monday were pretty lackluster, it's worth noting Jernigan's seven targets ranked second on the Giants, even if his average of 6.3 yards per catch is more underwhelming. Nonetheless, the Giants' offense as a whole struggled mightily in their first regular season game under new coordinator Ben McAdoo on Monday, so Jernigan may have more to offer on occasion down the road, until Beckham earns New York's third receiver job.

Whispers about Jernigan possibly being cut seem to have been off base, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Jernigan started and played most of the first half Friday. He had three receptions (on four targets) for 22 yards.
With Odell Beckham still recovering from a hamstring injury, it's likely Jernigan will be the team's No. 3 wideout in Week 1.
Tue Aug 19 201401:44Jernigan struggling this preseason
Jernigan has been struggling this preseason, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
He was largely an afterthought until two strong games to close the 2013 season, but has not seized the opportunity for a bigger role this year so far in camp.
Wed Aug 13 201414:09Jernigan (knee) returned to practice Wednesday
Jernigan (knee) returned to practice Wednesday, NJ.com reports.
Jernigan re-joined the Giants' first-team offense, where he faces fresh competition from rookie Odell Beckham, who has finally eased his way back from a pulled hamstring. While Jernigan has been able to play in both of New York's preseason games thus far, Beckham is still projected for a larger role despite not featuring in game action yet. With that in mind, Jernigan is probably competing more with Mario Manningham (knee) for slotting as the Giants' fourth or fifth option.
Mon Aug 11 201418:36Jernigan didn't practice Monday due to knee concern
Jernigan didn't practice Monday due to a knee concern, NJ.com reports.
Jernigan is expected to make a prompt return to drills Tuesday, but the absence marks his second as a result of the injury in less than a week. After coming off the bench and snagging two passes for 13 yards in the Hall of Fame Game, he failed to reel in his sole target as a starter Saturday versus the Steelers. Meanwhile, the Giants' receiving corps is pretty banged up at the moment, meaning Jernigan's ultimate role may not be known until shortly before Week 1.

Jernigan started Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers with the Giants once again opening in a three-wide set, NJ.com's Jordan Raanan reports.
With Odell Beckham (hamstring) missing a second straight preseason game, Jernigan's only competition for the starting gig was Marcus Harris. Jernigan will likely be hard pressed to keep his No. 3 spot on the depth chart once Beckham is healthy and up to speed.
Fri Aug 8 201402:07Jernigan (knee) returned to practice Thursday
Jernigan (knee) returned to practice Thursday.
Apparently, the injury was minor. Jernigan is likely to be the team's fourth receiver once rookie Odell Beckham gets healthy.
Wed Aug 6 201420:31Jernigan absent from Wednesday's practice due to knee injury
Jernigan was absent from Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
Jernigan had been seeing opportunities for extra looks in camp while rookie Odell Beckham is sidelined with a hamstring injury, but now he appears to be taking a day off to nurse an ailment of his own. The 25-year-old is entering his fourth season with the Giants, and was targeted a career-high 44 times in his 2013 campaign. Jernigan started Sunday's Hall of Fame game in a three-wideout set, but is expected to return to a reserve role once Beckham is healthy. Considering his recent opportunities, this is very poor timing to develop a knee issue.

Jernigan caught two passes for 13 yards on three targets in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the Bills.
Reuben Randle was listed as the starter opposite Victor Cruz, but the Giants opened in a three-wide set, with Randle and Jernigan on the outside. After dropping what would have been a minimal gain on the game's first play, Jernigan settled down to catch a couple of short receptions. While Jernigan should be in the mix for targets, it's important to remember that first-round rookie Odell Beckham (hamstring) did not play in Sunday's game.
Mon Jun 16 201415:26Jerrel Jernigan working behind Odell Beckham
Jerrel Jernigan is working as the Giants' No. 2 "X" receiver at Organized Team Activities, behind Odell Beckham.
Rueben Randle is the first-team Z, and Victor Cruz mans the slot. Beat writer Jordan Raanan indicates Jernigan is on the outside looking in at early-season snaps, and is currently penciled in as New York's No. 4 receiver. Jernigan opened the offseason as a hot fantasy sleeper. His stock has tumbled since, with Randle ticketed for a prominent role and Beckham drafted in the first round.

Wed May 28 201423:18Jerrel Jernigan still must 'prove himself'
NJ.com's Jordan Raanan believes fourth-year WR Jerrel Jernigan still must "prove himself" to earn significant 2014 playing time.
Jernigan finished 2013 with a small-sample-size flurry, but he'll be hard pressed to earn a regular spot in New York's primary three-receiver set after the team drafted Odell Beckham 12th overall. Victor Cruz mans the slot, and Rueben Randle will play outside, opposite Beckham. Jernigan figures to end up as the No. 4 receiver, playing the second slot position when the G-Men go four wide.

Sat Feb 22 201414:15Reese heaps praise on Jernigan
Giants GM Jerry Reese said at the Combine that Jerrel Jernigan finally started to live up to his draft status down the stretch of 2013.
Jernigan posted a 19-237-2 line over the final three games of 2013 and should see an expanded offensive role as the Giants' third receiver in 2014, especially with new OC Ben McAdoo likely to install several three wide receiver sets. He is a sleeper in redraft leagues and worth owning in all dynasty formats.

Fri Jan 3 201414:25Coughlin talks up slot WR Jerrel Jernigan
In a Friday radio interview, Giants coach Tom Coughlin suggested the light flipped on for Jerrel Jernigan in 2013.
Citing fumbles and injuries as the reasons Jernigan played sparingly in his first two NFL seasons, Coughlin said he "saw a different young man late in the season -- a very, very competitive guy." Jernigan's playing time spiked due to Victor Cruz's knee injury, and the slot receiver racked up six-plus catches in each of the Giants' final three games. With Hakeem Nicks likely to leave in free agency, Jernigan projects as New York's third receiver for 2014. The 24-year-old is worth owning in all Dynasty leagues.

Sun Dec 22 201319:54Jernigan goes for 80 yards, touchdown
Jerrel Jernigan caught six balls for 80 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 16 win over the Lions.
Replacing Victor Cruz (knee surgery) at slot receiver, Jernigan hauled in a 20-yard touchdown from Eli Manning in the second quarter. The TD was the first of Jernigan's three-year career. Jernigan operated as New York's chain-moving receiver with the run game failing to click, and figures to play the same role in Week 17 against the Redskins.

Wed Dec 18 201311:24Jerrel Jernigan not practicing on Wednesady
Jerrel Jernigan (knee) is not practicing Wednesday.
Jernigan wasn't known to be injured while catching six passes for 67 yards against the Seahawks, so this could be a precautionary day off. If active, he'll be the Giants' No. 3 wideout in Week 16 with Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) almost certainly out. Louis Murphy is the next man up behind Jernigan.
