Jaramillo began a throwing program this weekend and should be ready to resume playing in games for Triple-A Indianapolis by the end of July. The 28-year-old will function as organizational depth at catcher once he returns to full health. He spent the first two weeks of the season in the majors but hasn't been back since.

Jason Jaramillo will almost certainly be optioned to the minors once Chris Snyder (back) returns.
The Pirates are hoping that Snyder will be ready to reclaim primary catching duties by the end of April, at which point Jaramillo will be sent to the farm. Jaramillo has started three games at catcher so far this season and is batting .357 over 14 at-bats.

Jaramillo didn't impress in his callup this season, and his minor league statistics aren't that great either. He'll probably be a career backup catcher, especially with prospect and high draft pick Tony Sanchez rising up quickly behind him. Justin Thomas has similar low upside (but throws with his left hand!) and goes back to Triple-A for the third year in his career.

Pirates GM Neal Huntington said Sunday that backup catcher Jason Jaramillo could be optioned to the minors shortly.
Jaramillo, 27, has hit just .180/.261/.262 in 61 at-bats this season as Ryan Doumit's understudy. Erik Kratz, 30, has enjoyed a nice start to the year down in Triple-A Indianapolis and could soon be given a shot in the bigs.
