Indians signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Carlin spent last season at Triple-A with the Angels, batting .230/.339/.311 with four homers. The 33-year-old was with the Indians from 2010-12, totaling 10 games at the big league level. He gives the Tribe some organizational depth.

Indians re-signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract.
The deal also contains a spring training invite. Carlin must really like Columbus, because he's elected to re-sign with the Tribe for the second offseason in a row despite spending all of 2011 at Triple-A and nearly all of 2010 there. Barring something unforeseen, he figures to spend most of 2012 at Columbus, as well.

With the contract comes an invitation to spring training. Carlin, 29, hit just .238/.332/.336 with four home runs over 244 at-bats this year at Triple-A and probably won't be in the Indians' plans next season.

According to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com, the Indians will promote catcher Luke Carlin and right-hander Vinnie Pestano before Thursday's game.
Both will need to be added to the 40-man roster, so the Indians will have to make a pair of corresponding roster moves. Carlin, 29, batted .238/.332/.336 with four home runs and 29 RBI between Triple-A Indianapolis (Pirates) and Triple-A Columbus (Indians) this season. Pestano, 25, has a 1.55 ERA, 14 saves and a 59/14 K/BB ratio over 46 1/3 innings with Triple-A Columbus this season.
