Taschner signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in June and was called up to the big leagues last week. But he allowed 14 earned runs in 19 2/3 innings and will either elect free agency or head back to Triple-A Albuquerque. It may be in his best interest to stick with the Dodgers.

The news comes via Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com, who spoke directly with the general manager of the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albquerque, New Mexico. That is where Taschner will start his Dodgers career. He was designated for assignment in early June by the Pirates after opening the season with a 6.05 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP in 17 relief appearances.

Jack Taschner has elected to become a free agent.
The reliever was designated for assignment last week in order to clear roster space for pitching prospect Brad Lincoln. Taschner, 32, had a 6.05 ERA in 17 appearances for the Bucs, but plenty of teams are desperate for bullpen help. He should get another opportunity in no time.

Jack Taschner (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list as early as Wednesday.
Taschner is already back with the team after allowing one run over two appearances with Double-A Altoona. He had a 6.23 ERA over 16 appearances before going on the disabled list with a left hamstring injury last month.

Pirates placed LHP Jack Taschner on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with left hamstring tightness.
Taschner was serviceable in April, but has allowed runs in three out of his last six appearances, good enough for a 14.73 ERA over 3 2/3 innings this month. Ryan Howard touched him up for a grand slam on Monday.
