Sun Jul 18 201012:04Penn signs on with Japanese team
Hayden Penn has reached an agreement with a Japanese team.
The signing has been rumored for over a week now. Penn is a former top prospect that's still just 25 years old, but he hasn't been able to find success in the big leagues. Perhaps he'll take the Colby Lewis route and return in a couple years after success in Japan.

Tue Apr 20 201018:24Pirates send Penn to extended spring training
The Pirates have sent Hayden Penn to extended spring training in Florida.
It's a minor surprise, as Penn was scheduled to report to Triple-A Indianapolis. "Now that he's back to being a prospect with us, we want to develop him as a starter," said Pirates general manager Neal Huntington. "In talking through it with Hayden, we felt this was best." It will likely take him a few weeks in order to be properly stretched out.

Fri Apr 16 201018:16Penn outrighted to Triple-A

Thu Apr 8 201015:55Pirates' Penn pounded in debut
Hayden Penn allowed four runs in an inning of relief in his Pirates debut Thursday.
The Pirates picked up Penn on a waiver claim at the end of last month and stuck him right in their pen, but he doesn't figure to get a lot of rope if he continues to struggle. On the plus side, the worse he pitches now, the more likely it is that he'll clear waivers if the Pirates try to send him down.
