Wed Mar 4 201509:07Hanrahan will undergo second Tommy John surgery
Hanrahan will undergo a second Tommy John surgery, and he has been released by the Tigers, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
In camp as a non-roster invite on a minor league deal, the Tigers parted ways with Hanrahan as the injury may prove to be a career-ending one depending on how he progresses through his rehab. Most likely, it will take Hanrahan longer than the typical 12-month minimum to work his way back into game situations again.

Hanrahan (elbow) is traveling to Texas to have his arm examined by Dr. Keith Meister, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.
The Tigers shut Hanrahan down over a week ago, and it appears as though he'll be unavailable to begin the season as he's been experiencing a few different types of pain in his arm. The result of Hanrahan's visit with Dr. Meister should shed some light on the extent of the problem.
Mon Feb 23 201510:10Hanrahan (elbow) shut down for now
Hanrahan (elbow) has been shut down for now, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
He threw a short bullpen session Saturday, but will not throw Monday, as his throwing program will be put on hold. As a non-roster invitee to spring training, Hanrahan has a long hill to climb before fantasy owners should start to look at him as a potential solution to the Tigers' bullpen woes.
Sat Feb 21 201520:14Hanrahan (elbow) threw short bullpen session Saturday morning
Hanrahan (elbow) threw a short bullpen session Saturday morning, MLB.com reports.
According to manager Brad Ausmus, Hanrahan "didn't feel his best" during the session, but the right-hander is tentatively scheduled to get back on the mound Monday to give it another shot. It's been close to two years now since Hanrahan last pitched in an organized baseball game, and he indicated he's simply hoping to keep throwing and do what he can for now.
Sat Feb 14 201511:13Hanrahan (elbow) throwing in preparation for spring training
Hanrahan (elbow) has been throwing in preparation for spring training, but he has not thrown at full velocity on back-to-back days yet, the Detroit News reports.
The recovery from Tommy John surgery has taken more than 20 months for Hanrahan, thanks to the additional removal of bone spurs and a repair of his flexor tendon as part of the procedure. If he proves healthy this spring, or early in the season at Triple-A Toledo, Hanrahan could emerge to contribute in the late innings for the Tigers.
Fri Nov 14 201416:04Hanrahan (elbow) expected to be ready for spring training
Hanrahan (elbow) is expected to be ready for spring training, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Dr. James Andrews has told GM Dave Dombrowski that Hanrahan will be ready to go come in the spring, but Dombrowski admitted that the decision to re-sign Hanrahan is still "a gamble." The Tigers didn't see any return on their $1 million investment in Hanrahan last season, as he was shut down after suffering a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery toward the middle of the year.
Fri Nov 14 201412:13Joel Hanrahan: Re-Ups With Tigers
Hanrahan has agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with $2.5 million in active roster bonuses, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports.
He signed a similar deal with the team last season, but missed the entire season due to Tommy John surgery. The Tigers' bullpen woes are well-documented, but Hanrahan would likely have to pitch his way into a high-leverage role, as he has not been an effective reliever since 2012.
Tue Jul 22 201419:13Hanrahan (elbow) a 'longshot' to pitch in '14
Lynn Henning of the Detroit News reports that Joel Hanrahan (elbow) is "still a longshot" to pitch for the Tigers this season.
Making his way back from Tommy John surgery, Hanrahan is throwing bullpen sessions in extended spring training but has yet to face hitters and it's not clear when he might be ready to do so. The veteran reliever was only guaranteed $1 million by the Tigers, so while his lack of progress is disappointing, it's not a big blow.

Sat Jul 19 201409:46Tigers transfer Joel Hanrahan to 60-day DL
Tigers transferred RHP Joel Hanrahan to the 60-day disabled list.
This was merely done as a procedural move to clear a roster spot for Drew VerHagen who is making his major league debut with Saturday's start against the Indians. Hanrahan has begun to make progress toward a return, but isn't expected to join the Tigers bullpen until some point in August.

Wed Jul 16 201411:15No timetable for Joel Hanrahan (elbow)
Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said earlier this week that Joel Hanrahan (elbow) has "made progress, but I can't also say that he's close."
Hanrahan is throwing bullpen sessions, but Dombromski said there's no timetable for when the reliever will face hitters and eventually go out on a rehabilitation assignment. "I really don't know what's going to happen with his situation," Dombrowski said. "He's throwing. He'll throw bullpens again this week, but I don't know if he's going to take off from here or I don't know if he'll stagnate from here. I don't really know."

Hanrahan will long toss for the next week or so before being re-evaluated. If all goes well, he could resume throwing bullpen sessions next week. There is still no clear time-table for his return, but his agent suggested that it could come in mid-June.

Tigers signed RHP Joel Hanrahan to a one-year contract; placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
The financials of the contract are not yet known, though general manager Dave Dombrowski not surprisingly announced that the deal includes incentives. Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Hanrahan was clocked as high as 93 mph during an audition for teams last month. The Tigers aren't setting a timetable for his return, but the general feeling is that they're hoping to have him by early June. Hanrahan could eventually work his way into being Joe Nathan's primary setup man.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Tigers will sign Joel Hanrahan (elbow).
There's no word on the particulars, but the club has a press conference scheduled for Friday afternoon. Hanrahan impressed during a throwing session for roughly 20 teams a couple weeks ago, hitting as high as 93 mph on the radar gun. It will likely take him a while to become ready for game action, but he'll offer the Tigers some setup help ahead of Joe Nathan once ready.

Heyman adds that Hanrahan has received "multiple" offers at this point, though it's unclear which teams have extended a formal proposal. The free agent reliever looked good in a showcase earlier this month and is not expected to hold another audition before signing on with someone. Hanrahan reportedly won't be game-ready until June.

Mon Apr 28 201419:04Mets not involved in Joel Hanrahan bidding
Newsday's Marc Carig reports that the Mets "don't appear to be involved" in any talks regarding Joel Hanrahan (elbow).
Carig does add the "at the moment" caveat, but it's looking like the Mets will pass on the free agent reliever. Hanrahan was naturally linked to the Mets given the uncertainty in the back-end of their bullpen. The rigthy isn't expected to be game-ready until June.

Tue Apr 22 201409:58Hanrahan (elbow) unlikely before mid-June
Mike Puma of the New York Post hears that the earliest that Joel Hanrahan (elbow) will pitch in the majors is likely mid-June.
Hanrahan impressed during a throwing session for roughly 20 teams last week, topping out at 93 mph with his fastball. Still, he'll need some time before he's game-ready. The Mets remain interested and could be a good fit for save chances as he attempts to rebuild his value.
