RF Logan Schafer broke up White Sox starter Carlos Rodon's string of seven straight strikeouts to start the game Friday night with a double down the right-field line. Schafer finished the game 2-for-4 and recorded his third multi-hit game of the season. He also continued to perform well on the road, where he is hitting .281 (9-for-32) with a double, triple and three walks.

Schafer went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in a 4-3 win over St. Louis on Friday.

Schafer was in an 0-for-12 stretch in his previous three games, so the breakout is a promising sign. It's rare to see a hitter record more strikeouts than hits, but that's what Schafer has done this season. He has some nice power-speed potential, but he's never put it all together at the major league level.

The Brewers had a couple roster spots open up with Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers traded to Houston, and Schafer will come up to fill one. Schafer, who has posted a modest .256/.291/.341 batting line with Colorado Springs this season, will serve as the fourth outfielder for now, though more time could open up if Gerardo Parra is also dealt.

Schafer went 14-for-39 (.359) with a home run and rive RBI over his last 10 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Schafer got off to a slow start after being optioned to Colorado Springs in early May, but he has started to heat up of late. He is not on the verge of being called back to Milwaukee, but there's a good chance that happens at some point later this season, particularly if the Brewers trade outfielder Gerardo Parra.

The Brewers needed to make room for Scooter Gennett (hand), who is returning from the 15-day disabled list. Schafer still has options, and the Brewers have a couple of backup infielders -- Elian Herrera and Jason Rogers -- that are also capable of playing some outfield.

Schafer is not in the lineup Friday's game against the Cubs.

Schafer had received the start in center field four games in a row, but will now take a step back for Gerardo Parra. Of course, both will probably not see center field all too often once Carlos Gomez returns sometime this weekend.

Schafer is in the lineup Wednesday for the fourth straight day.

Schafer went 4-for-11 with two doubles over his last three starts, so manager Ron Roenicke decided to give him another start Wednesday. Schafer has seen a bump in playing time of late, but he will move back into a part-time role when Carlos Gomez (hamstring) returns to action in the near future.

Schafer is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Schafer, who is 0-for-8 this season, will start his second game of the year Tuesday night. He will cover center field and bat seventh against Reds starter Jason Marquis.

Schafer will open the season on the Brewers' 25-man roster, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.

Schafer earned a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster by hitting .300 (15-for-50) in 24 spring games. He owns just a .209 career batting average at the big league level, and will be the fifth outfielder behind four talented outfielders, so don't expect much from him in terms of playing time or fantasy production.

Schafer was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Schafer was set to start in place of the injured Ryan Braun (thumb), but Braun was added to the lineup after going through batting practice, and Schafer will instead open on the bench Saturday night.

Schafer was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

With the Brewers acquiring an upgrade in Gerardo Parra at the deadline, Schafer was sent to Nashville for the entirety of August, but he'll return Monday to occupy a spot on the team's expanded September roster. In 53 games with Milwaukee this season, Schafer has hit just .183/.267/.288, so his opportunities figure to remain limited over the final few weeks.

The Brewers acquired a better version of Schafer at Thursday's trade deadline in the form of Gerardo Parra, who offers Gold Glove defense and slightly better hitting in the outfield. Schafer likely won't be back up with the Brewers until an injury strikes one of their outfielders.
