Lewis ran for 34 yards on six carries and caught 8-of-11 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-6 win at Dallas. He was on the field for 43 offensive snaps, compared to 17 for LeGarrette Blount, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.
Lewis was a force throughout, continually making defenders miss, and had perhaps the play of the game on his 10-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. On the play, Lewis made a one-handed catch, juked a defender, ducked under another, and then powered his way over the goal line. He might have had a short touchdown late in the second quarter, as it looked like he was going to get the ball at the one-yard line after his 13-yard run, but the Cowboys called a timeout. After the pause in action, Lewis was not on the field, and Tom Brady scored on a QB sneak. No matter, it was another productive game for Lewis, who continues to be heavily involved. He and the Patriots will take on the Colts in Indianapolis next week.

Lewis has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Patriots that will keep him with the team through the 2017 season, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.
Lewis has emerged as Shane Vereen's replacement as the Patriots' top pass-catching back, with his strong effort out of the gate leading to the team giving him some added job security. Through three games, Lewis has recorded 30 carries for 146 yards, to go along with 15 catches for 179 yards, en route to scoring two touchdowns. While the bruising LeGarrette Blount is a candidate to handle a good chunk of the heavy lifting in the Patriots' backfield moving forward, Lewis also figures to retain of portion of the team's carries, while looking like a solid play in PPR formats thanks to his involvement in the team's passing game.

Lewis carried eight times for 37 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 30 yards in Sunday's 51-17 win over the Jaguars.
Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Lewis was on the field for 28-of-36 first-half snaps, before bruising back LeGarrette Blount began to do the team's heavy lifting as the game rolled along, rushing 18 times for 78 yards and three TDs. The Patriots are off in Week 4, but Lewis will be back in action against Dallas in Week 5, looking like a solid play in PPR formats, now that he appears entrenched as Shane Vereen's replacement as the Patriots' top pass-catching back.

Lewis was on the field for 70 of the Patriots' snaps on offense in Sunday's win over the Bills, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports. In the process, he carried seven times for 40 yards with a TD, while catching six passes for 98 yards. Lewis also lost a fumble in the game.
Meanwhile, LeGarrette Blount recorded seven snaps in his return to action, while Brandon Bolden saw five and Travaris Cadet was out there for two snaps. Given that Lewis has has put the ball on the ground in two straight games and that the Patriots' RB workload is so often game-plan/matchup dependent, it's not hard to imagine Blount -- the team's top "big back" -- seeing an uptick in carries next week. That said, Lewis has, in any case, made a case for weekly consideration in PPR formats, given that he appears to have emerged as the successor to the team's former pass-catching back, Shane Vereen.
Fri Sep 11 201500:00Dion Lewis: Dominates Snaps And Targets In Opener
Lewis gained 69 yards on 15 carries and 51 yards on four receptions (five targets) in Thursday's season-opener against the Steelers.
Lewis got the start over Brandon Bolden, who gained just one yard on five carries and caught one pass for 12 yards. According to Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus, Lewis played 45 offensive snaps, compared to just 14 for Bolden and one for James White, which bodes well for Lewis' continued involvement in the offense when LeGarrette Blount returns from his suspension for a Week 2 matchup with the Bills. On the other hand, Lewis fumbled inside the Pittsburgh five-yard line at the end of a 19-yard reception early in the fourth quarter, somewhat marring an otherwise strong performance. The Patriots did recover the fumble and score a touchdown a few plays later, and Lewis was back in the game on the next drive, suggesting that he avoided Bill Belichick's doghouse. Blount will likely get a good chunk of the early-down snaps in Week 2, but it appears Lewis has a significant edge over James White for the passing-down snaps/Shane Vereen role. The week-to-week production may be difficult to predict, but a matchup with the Bills should favor a pass-oriented offense, unless the Patriots jump out to a big lead.

With LeGarrette Blount suspended and and Travaris Cadet inactive Thursday night against the Steelers, the Patriots will roll with a backfield trio of Lewis, Brandon Bolden and James White.
While it remains tough to predict how the team's carries will be divided in Week 1, with Blount and Cadet out of the mix, Lewis -- who had a strong preseason -- figures to see some change-of-pace work on Thursday, thus making him of some interest in deeper PPR formats.

With LeGarrette Blount suspended for Week 1 and Jonas Gray having been let go by the team, the Patriots will head into their regular season opener with one "big back" in Brandon Bolden, along with three change-of-pace options in Lewis, James White and Travaris Cadet, ESPN.com reports.
While it's still not abundantly clear in the long term how the team plans to fill the void created by the departure of pass-catching back Shane Vereen, Lewis's strong preseason figures to result in him claiming some portion of that role in Week 1, along with White and possibly even Cadet, health permitting. While Lewis remains a fantasy dart until the Patriots' RB pecking order is better established, he is worth a look in deeper PPR formats in order to see how the team's third-down back situation plays out in Week 1.

Lewis did not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants.
Nor did Brandon Bolden or Travaris Cadet, which left second-year back James White to see added change-of-pace reps in the Patriots' offense on Thursday. While it's not entirely clear how the team plans to fill the void created by the departure of pass-catching back Shane Vereen, Lewis seems to have done enough this preseason to claim some portion of that role in Week 1, thus putting him on the radar in deeper PPR formats.

Lewis had three carries for 12 yards and caught four passes (on four targets) for 20 yards and a TD in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers.
At this stage, Lewis is making a strong case to make the Patriots' 53-man roster in a change-of-pace role. With a direct replacement for free agent departure Shane Vereen having yet to be clearly identified, Lewis remains in the team's third-down/pass catching mix, along with James White, Brandon Bolden and Travaris Cadet. Lewis will be a fantasy dart, however, until there's added clarity on that front.

Lewis carried three times for 12 yards and caught five passes for 26 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Saints.
While Lewis still needs a break or two to make a fantasy impact with the Patriots as a change-of-pace back, his efforts Saturday support his chances of making the team's roster in a depth role.

Lewis (unspecified issue) missed Thursday's preseason opener against the Packers, ESPN.com reports.
Lewis needs a break or two to stick with the Patriots as a change-of-pace back, so the sooner he returns to action, the better his chances of making a run for a roster spot will be.
Thu Jun 18 201511:58Lewis has caught eye of coach Bill Belichick this offseason
Lewis has caught the eye of coach Bill Belichick this offseason, ESPN.com reports. "He's missed some time lately [in 2013, 2014], so we'll see where he's at, but he's had a good spring," Belichick noted. "He's done a good job."
Though Lewis hasn't played in an NFL game over the last two seasons, he's in the mix to help fill the voided created by the departure of pass-catching back Shane Vereen. That said, at this stage, James White and Travaris Cadet remain to favorites to absorb Vereen's previous duties.
Wed Dec 31 201417:02The Patriots have signed Lewis to reserve/future contract
The Patriots have signed Lewis to a reserve/future contract, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
The 5-8, 195-pounder should have a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Patriots next season. Lewis' last NFL regular season carry came in 2012, while he was with the Eagles.
Thu Sep 18 201421:29Lewis waived by Colts on Tuesday
Lewis was waived by the Colts on Tuesday, ESPN reports.
Lewis lasted only one week with the Colts and was previously cut by the Browns at the end of this year's preseason. Following a leg injury that forced him to miss all of last season, Lewis has struggled to find staying power in the league.
Tue Sep 9 201417:10Lewis signed with Colts on Tuesday
Lewis signed with the Colts on Tuesday, Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Lewis was in camp with the Browns this preseason but failed to crack the final roster, as Cleveland instead opted to go with Ben Tate, Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell in the backfield. The Pittsburgh product has not appeared in an NFL game since 2012, when he rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown in nine games for the Eagles. Lewis will likely serve as the third or fourth back behind Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw.
Sat Aug 30 201410:13Lewis cut by Browns
Lewis has been cut by the Browns, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
With Lewis, who carried 12 times for 30 yards in the preseason, no longer in the mix, it appears as though Isaiah Crowell -- who looked sharp in the team's preseason finale -- is now a candidate to claim a reserve slot in the Browns' backfield behind Ben Tate and Terrance West.

Lewis has separated himself in the battle for the Browns' No. 3 running back job, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Lewis received just three carries in the Browns' third preseason contest, but his eight yards on the ground were actually good enough for second on the team. Only Terrance West had more carries (seven) than Lewis, but West turned those carries into just 17 yards. The Browns also like Lewis' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, and he showed prowess in this part of his game Saturday by catching two passes for 10 yards. The battle is still far from over, but at this point, Lewis seems to be edging out Isaiah Crowell and Chris Ogbonnaya for one of the final running back jobs with the team. This won't translate to much fantasy value out of the gates, but if something were to happen injury-wise to either Ben Tate or Terrance West, Lewis could be in line for more meaningful regular season snaps.

Lewis gained six yards on three carries during the Browns' preseason opener Saturday night. He also caught one pass out of the backfield for two yards.
Lewis did also lose a fumble in the contest, which usually doesn't bode well for young players under new head coaches. He did little to impress in this one elsewhere, although his reception is significant, as the Browns may utilize his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield once the regular season rolls along. Lewis is competing for one of the final running back spots on the roster, and the fact that neither Chris Ogbonnaya or undrafted free agent Isaiah Crowell carried the ball is a good sign for his chances of eventually making the cut. Ball security will certainly be a top priority when the 23-year-old takes the field for the Browns' next preseason tilt Aug. 18 against the Redskins.

Lewis intends to use his quickness and athleticism to earn the No. 3 running back job in Cleveland, the team's official site reports.
Lewis may have earned an opportunity in Cleveland during the 2013 season due to the dire running back situation, but a fractured fibula endured during the preseason cost him the entire year. The 23-year-old has carried the ball just 36 times over his first two NFL seasons, and comes into 2014 with his sights set on earning more meaningful playing time. He views himself as a "quick guy" that can make people miss in the open field, which could help differentiate himself from the between-the-tackle running styles of Ben Tate and Terrance West, both of whom are ahead of Lewis on the depth chart. Lewis certainly has the potential to make this team, but will have to fight off the likes of Isaiah Crowell, Edwin Baker and Chris Ogbonnaya if he's going to win a roster spot.
Fri Jul 4 201410:50Dion Lewis sat out spring practices
Browns RB Dion Lewis missed some of OTAs and all of June minicamp with an undisclosed injury.
Lewis "insists" the injury is not related to last August's fractured fibula, which included ligament damage in his left leg and cost Lewis the entire season. Still, Lewis could've used the reps to make an impression on a new Browns coaching staff. The Akron Beacon Journal is skeptical of Lewis' fit in new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone-running offense. He's a brittle change-of-pace back.
