Jarrett (shoulder) did not play Thursday against the Lions.
New head coach Todd Bowles said after the game that Jarrett missed the contest with a bruised shoulder, NJ.com reports. With safety Antonio Allen (Achilles) out for the season, he's competing for a starting safety spot with the team, but he'll need to get back on the field to improve his chances.

Jarrett signed his restricted free agency tender offer from the Jets on Friday.
Jarrett has played in 37 games, starting seven, since joining the Jets in December of 2012. Last season, he earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting 10 tackles, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and a sack during Week 10 against the Steelers. Heading into next season, Jarrett is coming off a career-best 40 tackles (27 solo) last year and should improve under the tutelage of new coach Todd Bowles.
Sat Aug 10 201304:23Jaiquawn Jarrett promoted to first team
Coach Rex Ryan announced after Friday's preseason opener FS Jaiquawn Jarrett will be promoted to the first-team defense.
Ryan was pleased with Jarrett's activity (five tackles, three solo) against the Lions, while Antonio Allen (one stop) was less of a factor. Free safety is the biggest question mark on New York's defense. The Jets may wind up using slot CB Kyle Wilson to play more snaps than anyone else at the position.

The Eagles' second-round pick in 2011 worked out for the Jets during the year after Philadelphia waived Jarrett in early September. Fri Sep 14 201209:35Jets work out safety Jaiquawn Jarrett
Jets worked out former Eagles S Jaiquawn Jarrett.
Jarrett cleared waivers, as no team wanted to guarantee his rookie salary. Coach Andy Reid acknowledged the 2011 second-rounder was never a good fit in the Eagles defense. Jarrett will play special teams no matter where he ends up.

Thu Sep 6 201208:58Jaiquawn Jarrett settles in as third safety
Jaiquawn Jarrett has settled in as the Eagles' third safety.
It speaks more to the team's lack of talent/depth at the position than any progression from Jarrett. Since he was selected in the second round last season, the Temple product has consistently been exposed in coverage. The Eagles badly need starters Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman to stay healthy.

Tue Aug 14 201208:57Jaiquawn Jarrett's roster spot in danger?
The Philadelphia Inquirer believes Eagles S Jaiquawn Jarrett's roster spot is in danger.
Jarrett was demoted to the third-team defense following a disastrous preseason debut, and has appeared overwhelmed since being a second-round pick last season. His draft pedigree should him earn the benefit of the doubt at final cuts, but if he plays as poorly as he did on Thursday the rest of the exhibition season, the Eagles might have no choice.

Sun Aug 12 201215:57Jaiquawn Jarrett demoted at Eagles practice
Eagles 2011 second-round pick Jaiquawn Jarrett was demoted to the third-team defense as the team resumed training camp practice on Sunday.
Jarrett missed tackles and took bad angles in the Eagles' preseason opener, and this is likely the way the coaching staff is punishing him. The 54th overall pick in last year's draft, Jarrett appears to be out of the hunt to start.

Wed Jul 25 201200:46Jaiquawn Jarrett unlikely to become starter
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane does not anticipate 2011 second-round pick Jaiquawn Jarrett breaking camp as a starter.
Jarrett was a disappointment as a rookie, and the Eagles operated during the offseason as if they don't foresee a second-year leap. Look for O.J. Atogwe and Kurt Coleman to end up with the majority of strong safety snaps this season.

Wed Jun 20 201212:52Atogwe signing another shot at Jarrett?
There has been no indication that the Eagles expect S Jaiquawn Jarrett to be a serious contributor in 2012.
Despite using a second-round pick on Jarrett in 2011, the Eagles have repeatedly passed him over. They brought in underwhelming Jarrad Page last year and just signed O.J. Atogwe to a one-year deal this week. Jarrett's struggles in coverage are a major liability. Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman are penciled in as the starting safeties.

Mon May 14 201212:38Reid: SS Jarrett is not currently a starter
Asked to name the Eagles' starting safeties Monday, coach Andy Reid did not include 2011 second-round pick Jaiquawn Jarrett.
Beat writer Jeff McLane believes Reid was sending a "message" to Jarrett, who struggled conceptually as a rookie. Reid declared Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen the current favorites to start. Jarrett will have to bypass Coleman this summer.

Fri Nov 11 201111:58Rookie safety Jarrett to draw first start
Rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett is expected to draw his first NFL start at free safety in place of Nate Allen (concussion) this week.
Slow to pick up Juan Castillo's scheme, Jarrett was bypassed three times for a starting job. He held his own as an injury replacement last week, recording three solo tackles without surrendering a big play against the Bears. Cardinals QB John Skelton isn't exactly a stiff test this week.

Thu Sep 29 201115:36Rookie S Jarrett inactive for all 3 games
Eagles rookie S Jaiquawn Jarrett has been inactive for all three games this season.
It's certainly not because the Eagles are well-stocked with quality safeties, either. Jarrett did suffer a thigh injury in the preseason finale, but he wasn't going to be more than a special teamer to start the season regardless. He could be active in that role this week while a shaky Nate Allen takes over for Kurt Coleman at free safety.

Wed Jul 27 201116:57Eagles sign Jaiquawn Jarrett
Eagles signed No. 54 overall pick Jaiquawn Jarrett to a four-year contract.
Kurt Coleman may hold the upperhand in Philly's strong safety competition, but the job will be Jarrett's eventually. A hard-hitting, ball-hawking defensive back, Jarrett is a favorite of NFL Films guru Greg Cosell's even though many perceived him as a second-round reach in the draft. Long term, he's an excellent IDP target. He'll be used in the box more often than not.
