INF Casey McGehee was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday for his third stint with the team. He started at third base against the White Sox. He hit .317 with six home runs and 50 RBIs in 116 games with Toledo.

3B Casey McGehee was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, making room for rookie JaCoby Jones. McGehee was batting .232 with one RBI in 22 games while replacing injured 3B Nick Castellanos. He struck out on a pitch above his eyes on Monday with a runner on third, likely sealing his fate. "He's kind of a roll-in-the-dirt baseball player," manager Brad Ausmus said of McGehee. "Never complains, and he was unlucky with the bat at times. Played a tremendous third base. We just felt we needed a little bit of offense and we're hoping to get it from Jones."

3B Casey McGehee, the roster replacement for injured 3B Nick Castellanos, was placed in the starting lineup Sunday on the day he reported from Triple-A Toledo. McGehee is a career .259 hitter over eight seasons but has had some success in the majors, driving in 76 runs for Miami in 2014 and hitting .301 for Milwaukee in 2009. "He was having a really good year (.322 for Toledo) especially offensively," manager Brad Ausmus said. "He's a big league player, really. He's had some good years here. Been a little up and down the last few years, but he's performed at the big league level. I'm not worried at all about him being an awe of what the environment's like." McGehee was placed seventh in the batting order. The word on McGehee must be that he chases off-speed stuff because that's virtually all he saw from RHP Jacob deGrom of the Mets. McGehee acknowledged he saw just one fastball the whole game. "I've played against them for more than a year," McGehee said. "But I've never seen it (the off-speed stuff) to that extreme."

McGehee was brought up Saturday and had one pinch-hit appearance in a blowout loss. He was signed to a minor league contract by Detroit in spring training and played for the Tigers' Triple-A farm club in Toledo beforeo being called up.

The Detroit Tigers on Tuesday signed 33-year-old veteran infielder Casey McGehee to a minor league contract.During his seven-year career, McGehee has compiled a .259 batting average, .319 on-base and .708 OPS over his career. He enjoyed his best season as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2010 when he hit 23 homers and knocked in 104 runs.In 2013, he played in Japan and hit 28 homers and drove in 93 runs while hitting .292.The following season with the Miami Marlins, he recorded 681 plate appearances and hit .287 on 177 hits, driving in 76 runs.He was traded to his hometown San Francisco Giants to replace World Series hero Pablo Sandoval.His time with the Giants was short-lived. He hit just .213 in 49 games and was released on July 8.He finished the season with the Marlins, playing 60 games and hitting .182.

McGehee is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres.

McGehee has worked his way into a timeshare at first base with Justin Bour, but he'll take a seat Sunday with the Marlins facing a tough right-hander in James Shields. Neither McGehee nor Bour is hitting particularly well right now, so expect the player that heats up first to eventually emerge as manager Dan Jennings' preferred option at first base.

McGehee is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

McGehee continues to start consistently despite his struggles at the plate (batting just 7-for-37 since joining the club). The Marlins will instead turn to Martin Prado at third base Wednesday, and that could become more commonplace unless McGehee can begin to turn things around at the plate.

McGehee is out of the Marlins' lineup Saturday in San Diego, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

McGehee has a three-game hitting streak to his credit, during which he's tallied two doubles, two runs scored, and a stolen base. No matter, he'll yield the hot corner to Derek Dietrich, who is batting sixth in the order.

McGehee went 1-for-4 while batting fifth for the Marlins on Friday night.

Martin Prado played second, as Dee Gordon's injury has seemingly opened up more playing time for McGehee coming out of the All-Star break. If the Marlins opt to deal Prado prior to the July 31 trade deadline, McGehee could wind up playing regularly throughout the final two months of the season, seemingly at the expense of Derek Dietrich.

McGehee is out of the lineup Saturday against Philadelphia.

McGehee will take a seat Saturday with right-hander Chad Billingsley on the hill for the Phillies. He is 4-for-11 with two doubles, three walks, and one strikeout this month but only bats .233 against righties. Derek Dietrich will take over at third base for the Marlins in McGehee's place.
