Sat Feb 27 201615:37Weeks signs minor league deal with Diamondbacks
After struggling offensively in limited action for the Seattle Mariners last season, veteran second baseman Rickie Weeks signed a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training with the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday.Formerly part of a core in Milwaukee with first baseman Prince Fielder and left fielder Ryan Braun that helped the Brewers to playoff appearances in 2008 and 2011, Weeks has struggled immensely in recent seasons. He batted .167 in 95 plate appearances for the Mariners before being released in June. Before signing with the Mariners, Weeks spent 11 years with the Brewers and had a .249 average with 148 home runs and 430 RBI.In the last three seasons, Weeks has batted .227 (156-for-686) with 20 home runs and 62 RBI in 262 games.Weeks will compete with Chris Owings, Phil Gosselin and former Milwaukee teammate Jean Segura for playing time at second base.
Sat Jun 13 201513:21Weeks designated for assignment on Saturday
Weeks was designated for assignment on Saturday, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
Weeks was brought on by the Mariners to start in the outfield against lefties, but he is slashing just .167/.263/.250 on the year. It would not be surprising if another team put a claim on Weeks, as many scouting directors surely remember his elite bat speed in his younger years, but it seems like his career might be winding down.
Wed Jun 3 201510:04Weeks 0-5 Tuesday, dropping average to .169
Weeks went 0-for-5 Tuesday, dropping his average to .169.
Weeks survived the guillotine Monday when Chris Taylor was demoted to Triple-A. Weeks has been adequate against lefties, but he's seen too many plate appearances against right-handers (45/42 vs. LHP/RHP), against whom he has three singles. He and Justin Ruggiano are vying to be the next roster casualty.

Weeks could be released when the Mariners need to add an extra reliever to their six-man bullpen, possibly as soon as this weekend.
The Mariners, who sometimes used an eight-man bullpen last season, likely will need another relief arm soon. Weeks and Justin Ruggiano, neither of whom is hitting higher than .200, are redundant as right-handed backup outfielders. Dustin Ackley is also terrible at the plate, but his status as the 2009 second overall pick likely gives him a pass. The M's could also demote Chris Taylor and move Brad Miller back to shortstop.

Weeks served as the designated hitter and bat second on Sunday, going 0-for-2 with two walks, two strikeouts and a run scored against the A's.
Austin Jackson's placement on the disabled list has opened the door for Weeks to see extra playing time, and his decent history of success against Jesse Chavez likely contributed to Weeks hitting out of the two-hole. He should continue to see a few more at-bats in the short term, but is hitting just .200 on the season and doesn't carry much fantasy value at the moment.

Weeks will bat second in the lineup and serve as the designated hitter Sunday against the Athletics.
The Mariners seem to have abandoned the idea of using Weeks at second base, as he's played exclusively at left field and DH this season. Austin Jackson's presence on the disabled list creates some day-to-day uncertainty with the team's starting outfield, but Weeks probably won't be a part of that conversation most nights. He's batting just .208 with two homers over his 55 plate appearances.
Thu Apr 30 201516:23Weeks not in lineup Thursday against Astros
Weeks is not in the lineup Thursday against the Astros.
After starting the last three games in left field, Weeks will give way to Dustin Ackley. After homering Tuesday, Weeks walked three times and scored a run in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Texas.

Weeks singled Monday in his first start in more than a week for just his sixth hit in 35 at-bats this season (.171).
Weeks has done almost nothing at the plate (12 strikeouts, one walk), and his outfield defense isn't much better. The Mariners have six outfielders, and it wouldn't surprise if the they decided Weeks' roster spot could be put to better use.
Sat Apr 11 201513:33Weeks out of lineup Saturday against A's
Weeks is out of the lineup Saturday against the A's.
Weeks went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's 12-0 loss to Oakland, giving him six strikeouts in 11 at-bats so far this season. With Seth Smith (groin) back in action, Weeks will head to the bench, and he figures to play primarily against left-handed pitching moving forward.

Weeks will start in left field and bat leadoff Friday against the A's.
With the Mariners facing another lefty in Drew Pomeranz, Weeks will be afforded his third straight start and his second start atop the order this season. He will start in left field, pushing Dustin Ackley to the bench. Weeks hit .256/.361/.504 with seven homers in 133 at-bats against left-handed pitching last season.
Wed Apr 8 201517:33Weeks remains in lineup at DH Wednesday
Weeks remains in the lineup at DH Wednesday, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.
This is notable because there is a right, Matt Shoemaker, on the mound for the Angels. The thinking going into the season was that Weeks would only play against lefties, but Seth Smith is mysteriously out of the lineup so Weeks remains in.
Tue Apr 7 201518:26Weeks batting leadoff Tuesday and playing DH
Weeks is batting leadoff Tuesday and playing DH.
With lefty C.J. Wilson on the mound, it is no surprise to see Weeks in the lineup, as that is the plan going forward against southpaws. However, Weeks being in the leadoff spot is noteworthy for those in daily leagues, as it will increase his chances of getting to five plate appearances in a game. Look for Dustin Ackley to be back in the outfield and for Nelson Cruz to move back to DH Wednesday against righty Matt Shoemaker.
Mon Mar 30 201513:59Weeks will get game at first base sometime this week
Weeks will get a game at first base sometime this week, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
Manager Lloyd McClendon said Weeks is working well in his time at first base so far this spring, and has earned a start in game action. Given Logan Morrison's injury history, the Mariners need a backup option at first base, and that appears to be Weeks. The former second baseman will also be on the short side of a left field platoon with Dustin Ackley, so he should get enough at-bats this year to be useful in deeper AL-only leagues.

Weeks is hitting at the leadoff position for Wednesday's game and may find himself in the number one spot during the regular season, Ryan Divish of Seattle Times reports.
Weeks batted leadoff in 623 of his 1,026 career starts with the Brewers. He batted .265/.353/.445 with 125 doubles, 22 triples and 100 home runs. Until Wednesday, the Mariners had endorsed Austin Jackson as their leadoff man (.276/.337/.405 at leadoff in 622 of 695 his career starts). Manager Lloyd McClendon is playing around with the line up and throughout the season, may switch up who is leadoff man. Weeks is expected to split time in left field with Dustin Ackley, and he is also a candidate for the second spot in the order along with Seth Smith and Justin Ruggiano.
