Braves signed RHP Cody Scarpetta to a minor league contract.
A former Brewers farmhand, Scarpetta had been with the independent league Lancaster Barnstormers, where he posted a 5.13 ERA over eight starts. The 25-year-old has been assignment to High-A Lynchburg for now but should eventually make his way up to Triple-A Gwinnett to serve as depth.

Brewers released RHP Cody Scarpetta.
The 25-year-old right-hander has spent his entire minor league career in the Brewers organization after being drafted in 2007. He missed the entire 2012 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, returning to toss 34 innings for High-A Brevard County in 2013, posting a 7.15 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 25/36 K/BB ratio in 34 innings. A once very promising young arm, there should be another organization willing to take a chance on him.

Fri Apr 6 201209:14Cody Scarpetta shut down with elbow injury
Brewers pitching prospect Cody Scarpetta will be shut down for three weeks while nursing a sore pitching elbow.
He'll resume a throwing program in late April. Scarpetta was one of the earlier cuts from Brewers camp, but he has some upside as a relief prospect and could be summoned from Double-A Huntsville at some point this season if he can get healthy.

Thu Mar 15 201216:15Brewers make series of cuts
Brewers optioned RHP Cody Scarpetta and OF-1B Brock Kjeldgaard to Double-A Huntsville.
The Brewers also reassigned right-hander Taylor Jungmann, left-hander Jed Bradley and catcher Anderson De La Rosa to minor league camp. Scarpetta, 23, had a 3.85 ERA and 98/61 K/BB ratio over 117 innings last season at the Double-A level. He has averaged 4.6 BB/9 over parts of four seasons in the minors, so it's unlikely he makes it as a starter in the long-term.

Sun Jul 10 201120:38Brewers option RHP Scarpetta to Double-A
Brewers optioned RHP Cody Scarpetta to Double-A Huntsville.
No corresponding roster move was announced. Scarpetta, 22, had a one-day stint with the Brewers and didn't appear in a game. He returns to a 4.40 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 79/43 K/BB ratio over 86 innings with Huntsville. The righty can touch the mid-90s with his fastball and has the best curveball in the Brewers' system, so we expect to see him back later this year.

Sun Jul 10 201111:55Cody Scarpetta to be called up
The Brewers are expected to call up pitching prospect Cody Scarpetta from Double-A Huntsville.
Scarpetta, 22, has been starting for Huntsville, posting a 4.40 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 79/43 K/BB ratio over 86 innings, but he'll be used out of the bullpen with the Brew Crew. The righty can touch the mid-90s with his fastball and has the best curveball in the Brewers' system, so they're hoping he can provide some pen help despite being so green.
