Irving (knee) played in Thursday's preseason game and had one assisted tackle.
It was Irving's first preseason game as he's coming back from ACL surgery. Irving should be the top backup at both inside linebacker spots now that he's shown he's healthy.
Sun Aug 2 201522:27Irving (knee) will not begin preseason on PUP list
Irving (knee) will not begin the preseason on the PUP list, ESPN reports.
Irving is coming back from ACL surgery and will likely be limited to individual drills for some time, but this is a good sign. If healthy, Irving could be the top backup at both inside linebacker spots, which would leave him one injury away from IDP relevance in deeper leagues.
Sun Jun 28 201516:05Irving progressing well in rehab from ACL injury
Irving is progressing well in his rehab from an ACL injury, the Colts' official site reports. "He's ahead of schedule as far as the rehab goes," coach Chuck Pagano noted of Irving earlier this month.
With that in mind, the hope remains that Irving is on track to take the field during training camp, though he may not be full-go on that front right away. "The docs and the trainers are optimistic that there's a possibility that by August 1 he might be ready to get back in the fold and do some things, but it's not 100 percent," Pagano cautioned. Once he's up to speed, Irving -- who recorded 46 tackles in eight games for Denver in 2014 -- will have a chance to compete for a starting inside linebacker job for the Colts.
Mon Apr 27 201511:33Irving (knee) targeting training camp for potential return
Irving (knee) is targeting training camp for a potential return, Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Irving continues to rehab from an ACL issue, and the Colts were the club willing to gamble on him with a three-year contract despite the injury. If he can return to full health, there's a possibility he'll compete for playing time at inside linebacker, but he could also serve as a member of the Colts' special teams. Irving finished the 2014 campaign with 46 tackles (26 solo) and one sack over eight games with the Broncos.
Fri Mar 20 201512:20Irving (knee) signed with Colts on Friday
Irving (knee) signed with the Colts on Friday, Kevin Bowen of Colts.com reports.
With D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman both under contract, Irving doesn't project as a starter for the Colts. He could, however, be the top backup at both inside linebacker spots, which would leave him one injury away from IDP relevance in deeper leagues. Irving recorded a career-high 46 tackles over just eight games in 2014, before a knee issue brought his season to an early end, further adding to Denver's injury woes at linebacker. While the injury did eventually require surgery, it wasn't a torn ACL. That means Irving will likely be fine for training camp, though it can't quite be assumed.
Thu Nov 13 201417:24Irving (knee) placed on IR by Broncos
Irving (knee) has been placed on IR by the Broncos, Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports.
With Irving out for the season, the Broncos bolstered their depth at linebacker by claiming Todd Davis off waivers from the Saints.
Mon Nov 3 201416:36Irving (knee) considered "week to week" moving forward
Irving (knee) is considered "week to week" moving forward, the Denver Post reports.
Irving was forced out of Sunday's game against the Patriots due to a knee injury that is thought to be a sprained MCL. While confirmation on Irving's diagnosis is yet to surface, it appears the linebacker will be sidelined and evaluated on a weekly basis moving forward.
Mon Nov 3 201413:42Based on initial diagnosis
Based on the initial diagnosis, Irving is believed to have suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday's game against the Patriots, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The report notes that Irving is slated for additional testing, but at this stage it looks like the linebacker's knee injury is not season-ending in nature.
Sun Nov 2 201419:51Irving left Sunday's game against Patriots with knee injury
Irving left Sunday's game against the Patriots with a knee injury.
Irving's status for next week's game against the Raiders is thus clouded. Prior to his exit from Sunday's contest, he recorded four tackles.
Sun Sep 21 201422:46Irving had game-high 13 tackles Sunday against Seahawks
Irving had a game-high 13 tackles Sunday against the Seahawks.
Irving has been an excellent source of tackles recently, registering 24 of them in his last two games. Unfortunately he won't be able to keep the momentum going in Week 4, as the Broncos head out on bye before a Week 5 matchup against the Cardinals.
Sun Sep 14 201422:42Irving (knee) had game-high 11 tackles Sunday against Chiefs
Irving (knee) had a game-high 11 tackles Sunday against the Chiefs.
Irving suffered a minor knee injury against the Colts in Week 1, but he didn't appear affected by it at all Sunday. He now has 16 tackles, including one sack, through two games and he could be very busy in Week 3 at the Seahawks.
Sun Sep 7 201422:56Irving (lower leg) returned to Sunday's game in third quarter
Irving (lower leg) returned to Sunday's game in the third quarter, USA Today's Lindsay Jones reports.
The Broncos' starting inside linebacker, Irving will try to pick up where he left off, as he had four tackles (three solo), a sack and two TFLs at the time of his injury.
Sun Sep 7 201422:32Irving left Sunday's game against Colts with lower leg injury
Irving left Sunday's game against the Colts with a lower leg injury, and he is questionable to return, the Denver Post reports.
The Broncos are already thin at linebacker, with starting weak-side man Danny Trevathan (knee) expected to miss at least the first few games of the season. Irving, the starting inside linebacker, is followed on the depth chart by Steven Johnson, and then Lamin Barrow. Irving had a nice stat line at the time of his exit, with four tackles (three solo), a sack and two TFLs.
Sun Jun 22 201414:35Nate Irving earns Broncos MLB job
The Denver Post says fourth-year LB Nate Irving has earned the Broncos' starting middle linebacker job.
He'll be a two-down player with Von Miller and Danny Trevathan staying on the field in sub-packages, but it's still an accomplishment for 26-year-old Irving, who's been an NFL disappointment to this point in his career. This is also Irving's contract year. He finished last season with 41 tackles and one sack.

Mon Mar 17 201409:00Nate Irving penciled in as starting MLB
Nate Irving currently tops the Broncos depth chart at middle linebacker.
The Broncos have spent wildly to upgrade their defense, but they didn't get in on three-down middle linebackers like D'Qwell Jackson, Karlos Dansby, Jon Beason or Daryl Smith. So they're left with Irving, who has performed better as a strong-side linebacker than a "Mike" in his career. For now, he only has to beat out Steven Johnson and likely a draft pick to win the gig.

Tue Jul 23 201321:27Broncos MLB Irving to open camp as starter
Nate Irving will open training camp as the Broncos' starting middle linebacker.
The Broncos released Joe Mays on Tuesday, so Irving enters training camp as the clear-cut starter. A third-round pick in 2011, Irving has been slow to develop but is a candidate to take on an expanded role as a three-down linebacker with Von Miller facing a four-game suspension.

Tue May 21 201314:02Nate Irving getting 'first crack' at MLB
Broncos DC Jack Del Rio confirms Nate Irving will get the "first crack" at middle-linebacker duties.
It's just a matter of time before Joe Mays is released. "He's a bright guy, naturally a strong-handed guy," Del Rio said of Irving. "A thick guy." Stewart Bradley is the Broncos' only fallback option behind Irving after they decided not to address the position in last month's draft.

Tue May 7 201317:27Nate Irving contender at middle linebacker
The Denver Post expects LB Nate Irving to get "every chance" to win the Broncos' middle linebacker job.
Reporter Mike Klis made a similar proclamation in January, but that was before the Broncos didn't sign or draft any serious competition. A 2011 third-round pick, Irving has mostly played on the outside and special teams to this point in his career. Joe Mays is expected to be released, leaving Stewart Bradley as the Broncos' only fallback option behind Irving.

Mon Jan 28 201311:16Irving to challenge for starting spot in 2013
The Denver Post says LB Nate Irving will get a shot to earn a starting spot on defense this offseason.
Middle linebacker is his only option with Von Miller and Wesley Woodyard entrenched as starters on the outside. Irving, a 2011 third-rounder, played mainly in an outside reserve role in 2012. Keith Brooking, 38, is a free agent after starting 15 games, and D.J. Williams and Joe Mays have lofty cap numbers and could be released.
