The Denver Nuggets waived guard Nick Johnson, center Oleksiy Pecherov and guard/forward Devin Sweetney, reducing their roster to 15 players, the team announced on Saturday.Johnson, 6-3, 202, appeared in six games (one start) for Denver in the preseason, averaging 2.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 17.7 minutes per game.Pecherov, 7-0, 232, appeared one preseason game, scoring six points and grabbing one rebound in 7.4 minutes.Sweetney, 6-6, 200, played in four preseason games, averaging 1.3 points in 3.3 minutes per game.

Johnson was traded to Denver as part of the Ty Lawson deal on Sunday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Johnson struggled during his rookie season in Houston for playing time but might have added opportunities with this move to Denver. With that being said, he'll be lucky to find his way into the rotation as the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Emmanuel Mudiay, is the expected starter while veterans Jameer Nelson and Pablo Prigioni likely see the remaining minutes of what's left over. Best case scenario for Johnson this upcoming season is to steal playing time from Nelson and Prigioni, although that may prove to hard of a task for the former Arizona standout.

Johnson is dealing with an irritation in his lower right leg and won't be available for Friday's Las Vegas Summer League game against the D-League Select team, Mark Berman of Fox KRIV reports.

Johnson's injury doesn't seem to be overly serious as the Rockets are likely just erring on the side of caution. His next opportunity to play will be against the Suns on Sunday.

Johnson split time between the NBA and the NBA D-League this season. He averaged 2.6 points, 0.2 three-pointers, 1.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.1 blocks, and 0.3 steals in 9 minutes per game through 28 games with the Rockets in 2014-15.

The 22-year-old rookie, who is under team control through 2017-18, went back-and-forth from the NBA D-League this season. He averaged 18.2 points, 1.3 three-pointers, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.7 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 33 minutes per game through 20 games in the NBA D-League. His efficiency in the D-League (43% FG, 28% 3Pt, 79% FT) was noticeably better than his efficiency in the NBA (35% FG, 24% 3Pt, 68% FT). Johnson struggled to find minutes in the NBA, playing behind James Harden, Trevor Ariza, Corey Brewer, and Jason Terry on the Rockets' depth chart. Should the Rockets fail to re-sign unrestricted free agent Jason Terry, or should Corey Brewer choose not exercise his player option, Johnson could find more minutes with the Rockets next season.

Johnson saw 10 total minutes on the court during Houston's first round series win over Dallas.

The season-ending injury to Patrick Beverley opened up a small window of playing time for Johnson. However, the rookie hardly sees enough action behind Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni to be considered a worthwhile option in most postseason formats.

Johnson came off the bench for five minutes against the Jazz on Thursday.

Johnson is not seeing much time on the court in his rookie campaign and there's no reason to believe that will change over the final five weeks of the regular season. As it stands, most of his value comes in dynasty leagues, but even then he's not a great option.
