The 33-year-old announced his retirement last summer, only to sign with Vaqueros Laguna of the Mexican League for the 2012 season. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2010 as a member of the Brewers and is unlikely to make a major impact.

Sun Mar 13 201119:43Rockies' Vargas out indefinitely
Claudio Vargas could miss the rest of the spring with a hamstring injury sustained Sunday, according to the Denver Post's Troy Renck.
Vargas, who was signed to a minor league deal in January, probably wasn't going to make the Rockies as a middle reliever. He'll have to pitch well in Triple-A before he gets another shot.

Rockies signed RHP Claudio Vargas to a minor league contract.
The Dodgers cut ties with Vargas in August of last season after he posted a miserable 5.89 ERA over 10 starts at the Triple-A level. He probably won't land on the Rockies' Opening Day roster, but a better showing in the minor leagues may put him in line for an emergency call-up down the road.

Brewers designated RHP Claudio Vargas for assignment.
The Brewers are still looking for something resembling consistency in their bullpen and Vargas wasn't going to give it to them. In 19 2/3 innings, Vargas accumulated an ERA of 7.32 and a WHIP of 1.93. He'll wait and see if anyone claims him, but with plenty of other mediocre relievers out there, he's likely to find work hard to come by. His spot will be taken by Chris Capuano.
