Fri Oct 9 201519:24Mallett's teammate
Mallett's teammate, Brian Hoyer, will start against the Jaguars in Week 6, the Houston Chronicle reports.
While coach Bill O'Brien declined to commit to Hoyer as the team's starter for the remainder of the season, Mallett is only worth stashing in the deepest of leagues, as he's no lock to get another chance to start for the Texans moving forward, in the absence of an injury to Hoyer.

Mallett (chest) was seen leaving the Texans' sideline before the first half was over, the Houston Chronicle reports. He found himself involved another controversy, and explained that he thought the half was over.
To an outside observer, it looked like Mallett, who had been removed from the game after getting hit earlier in the second quarter, was miffed about being replaced by Brian Hoyer. Head coach Bill O'Brien appeared to corroborate Mallett's excuse, explaining the he had also thought the half was over before coaches pulled him back. This is the second time Mallett's been involved in a minor controversy. During the preseason, chronicled for the cameras of HBO's "Hard Knocks," he overslept and was late for a practice, just days after losing the training-camp battle to Hoyer.

Mallett (chest) said he merely had the wind knocked out of him during Thursday's game against the Colts, and he expected to re-enter the contest, KPRC-TV's Adam Wexler reports.
Mallett took a big hit midway through the second quarter and had to be removed for a few plays. He looked healthy enough to return and suggested afterward that he indeed was, but Brian Hoyer immediately started moving the ball upon entering the game. Mallett said head coach Bill O'Brien prevented him from going back in, and while that seems to suggest that Hoyer has taken over, O'Brien didn't commit to either quarterback after the game. It will be a surprise if Mallett is under center for Week 6 against the Jaguars, but the possibility can't yet be ruled out.

Brian Hoyer replaced Mallett at quarterback during the second quarter of Thursday's game against the Colts.
Mallett got off to another slow start, completing five of 10 passes for 50 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception. Benched in the second half of last week's blowout loss to the Falcons, Mallett was again replaced by Hoyer in Thursday's game, only this time head coach Bill O'Brien didn't wait until the contest was out of reach. Hoyer led the Texans to 10 points on their final two drives of the first half, but seven of those points came on a hail mary to rookie WR Jaelen Strong. If Hoyer has a decent second half, it's hard to imagine O'Brien would go back to Mallett.
Thu Oct 8 201519:19Mallett (chest) active for Thursday's game against Colts
Mallett (chest) is active for Thursday's game against the Colts, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Mallett was never in danger of missing the game, but he could be in danger of losing his job if he turns in another poor performance. With Arian Foster ready for a full workload and Andrew Luck (shoulder) sidelined, the Texans will likely fall far short of their league-leading 50.3 pass attempts per game.
Tue Oct 6 201519:31Mallett (chest) participated fully in Tuesday's practice
Mallett (chest) participated fully in Tuesday's practice, according to the Texans' official site reports.
Mallett will start Thursday's game against the Colts, but head coach Bill O'Brien doesn't want him throwing 50-plus passes a game, as he's done in two of his three starts. If Arian Foster is ready for a bigger role, look for the Texans to work the running game early and often Thursday.

Mallett will remain the Texans' starting quarterback for Thursday night's game against the Colts, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Mallett has been preferred to teammate Brian Hoyer since Week 1, but upon an abysmal start to Sunday's game against the Falcons, Mallett was replaced at quarterback by Hoyer, who went on to lead the Texans to three touchdown drives. Nonetheless, with a short week to prepare ahead of Thursday's divisional meeting with the Colts, the Texans will opt to keep Mallett at the helm of their offense. While that status certainly gives Mallett the superior status, neither player's performance this season should exude much confidence in fantasy owners.

Mallett was replaced by Brian Hoyer after the Texans fell behind the Falcons by a 42-0 score late in the third quarter of Sunday's contest, NFL.com reports.
Prior to being yanked from Sunday's game, Mallett completed just 12 of 27 passes for 150 yards with a pick. Per the Houston Chronicle, Mallett "overthrew and missed open receivers" on Sunday, while failing to spark the team's offense, leading to the Texans to turn to Week 1 starter Brian Hoyer. Once the dust settles, look for Hoyer to draw the start at QB for Houston against the Colts this coming Thursday.

Mallett (chest) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Falcons, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Mallett was limited at practice Friday, but the probable designation virtually assures that he'll be a go Sunday, though at this stage it remains unclear if top back Arian Foster will make his regular season debut this weekend. With that in mind, the running back is a game-time decision, though once he's fully up to speed, we'd expect him to re-emerge as the centerpiece of the Houston offense.
Thu Oct 1 201516:10Though Mallett (chest) limited at practice Thursday
Though Mallett (chest) was limited at practice Thursday, he is expected to be fine for Sunday's game against the Falcons, ESPN's Tania Ganguli reports.
Mallett was one of seven Texans listed as a limited practice participant Thursday, though it wouldn't surprise us if the QB ends up drawing a probable designation for Sunday's contest.
Wed Sep 30 201518:12Mallett (chest) listed as limited practice participant Wednesday
Mallett (chest) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, the Houston Chronicle reports.
So far there is nothing to suggest that Mallett's availability for Sunday games against the Falcons is in any danger, but we'll let you know if that assessment changes.

Mallett completed 24-of-39 passes for 228 yards with one touchdown and one interception Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Mallett connected with six different receivers, with DeAndre Hopkins leading the way by catching eight passes on 14 targets for 101 yards and a touchdown. The Texans rushed the ball 46 times, and the Bucs did little to stop them, which allowed Mallett to manage the game more than win it with his arm. Up next is a promising matchup against the Falcons, a game that could see Arian Foster (groin) make his season debut, taking even more pressure off Mallett.

Mallett completed 27-of-58 passes for 244 yards, a touchdown and an interception Sunday against the Panthers. He also scored a six-yard touchdown on his only carry of the game.
Inefficiency aside, it was a respectable performance for the 27-year-old in his first start of the season. Mallett spread the ball around to 10 different receivers against the capable Carolina defense, although he was just 8-of-19 on passes to his top two receivers, DeAndre Hopkins and Nate Washington. Houston's quarterback situation remains fluid, with Brian Hoyer still in the picture, but Mallett gave his team a chance to win in a difficult road game and certainly made his case to start next week's home matchup with the Buccaneers.
Thu Sep 17 201514:29Ryan Mallett: Confirmed at Week 2 Starter
Coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Thursday that Mallett will start at quarterback Sunday against the Panthers.
After Brian Hoyer started for the Texans in Week 1 against the Chiefs, Mallett relieved him with 6:10 left in the game and the Texans down by 27-9. Mallett proceeded to complete 8-of-13 passes for 98 yards and TD in the game, while adding "a spark to our team," in the words of O'Brien. Given how quickly the team yanked Hoyer after he won the job during the preseason, we're not sure how much job security Mallett possesses, but the fifth-year signal caller does have a big arm and if can demonstrate a degree of accuracy and limit his mistakes on Sunday, he could cement his status atop the team's depth chart, at least in the short-term.
Wed Sep 16 201514:24Ryan Mallett: In Line To Start Sunday
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle relays that Mallett is in line to start Sunday's game against the Panthers.
While the Texans have not yet confirmed the report, NFL.com echoes the notion that the team is prepared to start the strong-armed Mallett in Week 2, an outcome that would arrive on the heels of Hoyer's fourth-quarter benching in Week 1.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien will not commit to a starting quarterback for Week 2 after Mallett entered Week 1's loss to the Chiefs in relief of starter Brian Hoyer, ESPN.com reports. Mallett moved the Texans' offense on two scoring drives (touchdown, field goal) after entering the game with a little more than six minutes left in the game.
O'Brien, like most NFL coaches, doesn't make decisions in the heat of a moment, so the identity of the starting quarterback Week 2 against the Panthers will play itself out over the practice week.

Mallett threw for a touchdown and a two-point conversion while completing 8-of-13 passes after replacing an ineffective Brian Hoyer in Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Chiefs.
Mallett was inserted into the game by head coach Bill O'Brien with the Texans trailing 27-9 in the fourth quarter, and provided a shot of life for the offense while leading a touchdown drive. Both Mallett and Hoyer showed good chemistry with receiver DeAndre Hopkins, but Mallett was able to move the offense much more easily in his short time on the field. It's unclear which quarterback will get the starting nod in Week 2 against Carolina at this point.

Mallett completed 9-of-17 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown in preseason Week 3 against the Saints. He overcame a shaky start, going 3-of-9 for 15 yards in the second quarter, but got it going in the third quarter when he completed 6-of-8 for 62 yards.
After losing the competition to become the starting quarterback to Brian Hoyer, Mallett must not prepare himself to be called on at anytime as a replacement. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Hoyer is not on a short leash, but if the offense is working in the first handful of games, he won't hesitate to call on Mallett.

Mallett returned to practice Friday after missing Thursday's practice due to what head coach Bill O'Brien said was a "personal issue," CBS Houston reports.
O'Brien is keeping the details to himself, but rumors spread Thursday that Mallett had overslept and was late to the team's facility. O'Brien said Mallett will play against New Orleans.
Fri Aug 28 201507:44Mallett overslept and late to show up for Thursday's practice
Mallett overslept and was late to show up for Thursday's practice, the Houston Chronicle reports. While Mallett was at the team's practice facility for team meetings, the decision was made that he would not practice.
Mallett is expected to practice Friday and is slated to appear in Sunday's game against New Orleans, though head coach Bill O'Brien said he reserves the right to change his mind.
