Clay (calf) caught just 1-of-3 targets for seven yards Sunday in Tennessee.
Clay came into this game with high expectations after accumulating 193 receiving yards over his past two contests, but the tight end was held in check by a Titans defense that had previously struggled against the position. The Bills offense as a whole was atrocious besides the rushing production of quarterback Tyrod Taylor, but it's entirely possible Clay's calf injury severely limited his ability to make an impact in this one. He'll look to bounce back next week against the Bengals.

Caly (calf) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Titans.
With wideout Sammy Watkins still unavailable, Clay could once again be busy Sunday, on the heels of a nine-catch, 111-yard effort in Week 4's loss to the Giants.

Clay (calf) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Titans.
Though limited at practice both Thursday and Friday, Clay looks like a go for Sunday's game. With wideout Sammy Watkins iffy for the contest, Clay could once again be busy this weekend, on the heels of a nine-catch, 111-yard effort in Week 4's loss to the Giants.

Clay (calf) was limited at Thursday's practice.
Clay, who recorded nine catches on a team-high 13 targets for 111 yards this past Sunday against the Giants, was added to the Bills' injury report Thursday, so we'll revisit his status no later than Friday's practice. At this stage though, there has been nothing to suggest that the tight end's Week 5 status is in peril.

Clay had nine catches on a team-high 13 targets for 111 yards Sunday against the Giants.
Clay scored a 32-yard touchdown with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter but it was negated by a chop block penalty, ending his shot at extending his touchdown streak to three. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor continues to spread the targets around to his wide receivers, but Clay has still had 25 passes thrown his way in the last three games. Up next is a Week 5 trip to face the Titans, who are coming off their bye.

Clay caught five passes on seven targets for 82 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's 41-14 win at Miami.
Facing his former team, the Bills seemed determined to get him the ball early, as he had multiple catches on their first scoring drive, which culminated in his own 25-yard touchdown grab. On the touchdown play, Clay showed impressive after-the-catch skills, making three defenders miss. With a touchdown in back-to-back weeks and strong QB play from Tyrod Taylor in general, Clay seems like a player with increased value. He and the Bills will face the Giants in Week 4.

Hogan caught three of six targets for 19 yards in Sunday's loss to the Patriots, including his first touchdown of the season. He saw the field for 68 of 72 offensive plays, The Buffalo News reports.
A 7-62-1 line isn't bad through two games for a second-tier tight end, though it'd be nice to see the yardage output increase in the coming weeks. With LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, and Robert Woods around on offense, however, amid an offense that likes to run the ball, Clay stands little chance of putting up huge totals every week.

Clay caught all four of his targets for 43 yards in Sunday's win over the Colts.
Clay wasn't asked to do too much in his Bills debut, but he proved to be an effective security blanket for quarterback Tyrod Taylor when called upon. No Bills receiver saw more than five targets in this one, so the tight end wasn't alone in getting a modest workload in the receiving game. Buffalo wants to run the ball as much as possible, so it's going to be hard for Clay to provide consistent value unless he's scoring touchdowns.
Sun Sep 13 201511:40Clay (knee) listed as active for Sunday's game against Colts
Clay (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Colts.
Clay was probable for Sunday's game, so it's no surprise that he is active, but his status will be worth tracking in the coming weeks if his knee woes end up nagging him, as they did at times last season. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the TE had his knee drained at least six times last season while he was with the Dolphins.

Clay (knee) is practicing fully this week.
Though the Bills profile as a team likely to employ a run-heavy attack, wideouts Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Percy Harvin, along with Clay at the TE position, give QB Tyrod Taylor some capable pass-catching weapons. In Clay's case, if he is able to establish himself as a key red zone threat in a Buffalo uniform, fantasy utility should follow.

Clay, who was bothered by a knee issue earlier this week, caught two balls for 69 yards in Saturday's win over the Steelers, including a 67-yard score.
Clay looks like he should be fine for the regular season. Assuming the knee issue isn't a long-term concern, he could be a decent source of late-round value, as he has a great pair of hands and the Bills don't seem to have a quarterback worthy of enjoying that many long-distance strikes to wideouts. Therefore, Clay could become a decent option to stretch the field and in the red zone as the Bills try to win with smart play and a great defense.

Clay suffered a minor knee issue during Tuesday's practice and had to leave early.
The team seems to think it's not much to worry about and is hoping Clay can return for Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers. Clay is one of the league's better all-around tight ends, but the Bills don't have much experience behind him.

Clay is having a strong camp while no other tight end has come even close to his level of performance, The Buffalo News reports.
New offensive coordinator Greg Roman likes to use his tight ends heavily in the offense, and from the looks of things Clay will almost never be leaving the field. We're seeing him around No. 20 on tight end boards, but in an offense without a downfield passer and not a lot of red-zone targets, Clay could end up outproducing his draft day spot.

Clay's new offensive coordinator Greg Roman had starting tight end Vernon Davis on the field for 87 percent of the offensive snaps in 2014, and as much as 96 percent of the snaps in Davis' first season with Roman, BuffaloBills.com reports.
Clay is the clear-cut No. 1 tight end in Buffalo after the Bills spent big money to land him, and the team plans to move him all over the field in order to make him a big weapon in the short passing game. The only negatives: The Bills have a number of other weapons at running back and receiver, plus there's an unsettled quarterback situation. It might be better for Clay's value if EJ Manuel or Tyrod Taylor wins the starting job over Matt Cassel, as the first two guys are less experienced and might be more prone to throwing safer routes to a reliable target like Clay. He could be a decent sleeper after the first wave of tight ends is off the board.
Tue Mar 24 201514:43Clay said he will be every-down player in 2015
Clay said he will be an every-down player in 2015.
This borders on being too obvious to mention, as the Bills lack other attractive options at tight end, and they just gave Clay a five-year, $38 million contract. It's only worth passing along because Clay doesn't have a great reputation as a run blocker, which is a pretty important skill on a team that lacks talent at quarterback. That reputation is probably overblown, as it's pretty clear that the threat of Clay's receiving is more important than whatever additional blocking chops the team's backup tight ends would bring to the table on early downs. Clay will have a big role in the offense, but the Bills may struggle to move the ball while deploying lousy quarterbacks behind a shaky offensive line, despite having a skill-position group that features LeSean McCoy, Fred Jackson, Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin and Robert Woods, in addition to Clay.
Thu Mar 19 201511:39Charles Clay: Dolphins Won't Match Offer Sheet
The Dolphins will not match the five-year, $38 million offer sheet that Clay signed with the Bills, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
While the Dolphins are content to proceed with a tight end corps headed by Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims, Clay now tops the Bills' depth chart at the position, on the heels of a 2014 season in which he caught 58 passes for 605 yards and three TDs in 14 games for Miami. Clay battled through knee and hamstring issues this past season, but assuming his health, he'll be a big part of the Bills' offense in 2015, with a decent boost in his numbers a reasonable expectation. The Bills are clearly banking on such an outcome, having made Clay the fourth-highest paid tight end in the NFL, per the Buffalo News.
Tue Mar 17 201519:50Clay offered five-year
Clay has been offered a five-year, $38 million deal by the Bills, Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reports.
Clay's deal reportedly contains more than $20 million in guaranteed money -- an enticing offer for the 28-year-old tight end. Since Clay is a restricted free agent, the Dolphins will now have five days to match the offer. Considering they just signed former Pro Bowler Jordan Cameron to a two-year deal, it seems unlikely they'll consider competing with those terms, though they certainly have the cap room to do so. If they choose not too match, Clay should end up as the top Buffalo tight end option in 2015.
Tue Mar 17 201510:52Clay will likely end up with Bills
Clay will likely end up with the Bills, the Buffalo News reports.
One source reportedly put the chances around 90 percent, even though Clay has yet to sign an offer sheet. The Bills are apparently still figuring out the best way to draw up a contract that will be tough for Miami to match, without drastically overpaying the veteran tight end. The Dolphins recently signed fellow tight end Jordan Cameron to a two-year, $15 million contract, so it would be a bit surprising if they decided to match a large offer for Clay. It's possible the Dolphins are just leaking reports that say they want to keep Clay, hoping to get a division rival to overpay for a player that will inevitably sign there. Of course, given Cameron's injury history and the possibility of relying on two-tight end sets, it's also entirely possible that the Dolphins really do want to match Buffalo's eventual offer.

The Bills are expected to sign Clay to an offer sheet as early as Thursday, according to the Miami Herald.
Clay has been a hot commodity since the Dolphins signed him to an offer sheet earlier this month. Even if the Bills don't end up signing him to the offer sheet, the Browns are expected to. In any event, the Dolphins would have five days to match either offer sheet and would receive no draft pick compensation in the event that they let Clay walk.
Mon Mar 2 201515:18Charles Clay: Receives Transition Tag
The Dolphins have placed their transition tag on Clay, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The transition tag gives Miami the right to match any contract that Clay signs with another team. It's somewhat cheaper than the franchise tag, with the number for tight ends approximately $7.07 million. The Dolphins hope to sign Clay to a long-term deal, but this does leave open the possibility that the tight end could end up elsewhere, though it would likely take an overpay to pry him away from the Dolphins.
