PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed reliever Brandon Maurer and outfielder J.B. Shuck to minor league contracts that include invitations to big league camp when spring training begins next month.Maurer, 28, is 16-31 with 36 saves and a 5.36 ERA in 289 games with Seattle, San Diego and Kansas City, including an 0-4 mark with a 7.76 ERA in 37 appearances with the Royals in 2018.Shuck, 31, is a .244 career hitter in 433 career games with five different clubs between 2011 and 2018. He hit .192 in 70 games with the Miami Marlins last season.The Pirates also signed reliever Vicente Campos to a minor league contract. CF J.D. Shuck, who homered in the third inning, is 4-for-9 (.444) in the first two games of the series against the Royals. He went 0-for-20 from July 26 to August 7. He owns a career .365 average in 21 games against the Royals.

He was sent down the previous day but was needed again when his replacement, Charlie Tilson, sustained a season-ending hamstring injury. CF J.B Shuck matched a career-high with three hits, the last of which proved to be the game-winner when he blooped an RBI single in the eighth inning Thursday. Shuck now has 10 three-hit games, the most recent before Thursday's productive day came in 2014. Shuck has picked up more at-bats of late after becoming the White Sox every day center fielder since Austin Jackson was placed on the disabled list. "I'm going to get at-bats and so I can just relax a little and put together good at-bats and hopefully the results come," Shuck said.

CF J.B. Shuck has not only found a home defensively in center field while Austin Jackson is on the disabled list, but he was one of the lone bright spots for Chicago's offense in Tuesday's 4-0 loss. Shuck went 1-for-3 and has reached safely in 12 of his last 16 games when he hit .254 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and five RBI.

CF J.B. Shuck went 2-for-4 and also has homered in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. He's batting .205 in 25 games.

CF J.B. Shuck homered Saturday against Toronto for his first home run since April 19, 2014, and first with the White Sox. His season average is .189.

The White Sox promoted Shuck to serve as insurance for OF Austin Jackson, who left Sunday's game with turf toe and is expected to miss at least the next few games. This is the second trip to the majors this season for Shuck, who made the White Sox's Opening Day roster but was hitless in nine at-bats before being optioned to Charlotte on April 18. He batted .299 with two homers and 17 RBIs for Charlotte. Shuck is a career .262 hitter with four homers and 66 RBIs in 287 major league games dating back to 2011.

Shuck (hamstring) is in the lineup Sunday against the Yankees.

The hamstring injury left Shuck unavailable for the past four games, but he'll reenter the lineup Sunday with Avisail Garcia getting a day off. Don't expect Shuck to see much more regular action beyond Sunday's start, however, as the White Sox still view him as a fourth or fifth outfielder.

Shuck is still suffering from a sore hamstring and will not start Friday.

Shuck was able to make a pinch-hit appearance Tuesday, but that's about all the action the 28-year-old outfielder has seen as he's struggled to shake off a nagging hamstring injury he suffered Sept. 17.

Shuck continues to deal with a sore hamstring and has not started a game since Sept. 17.

Shuck has not been totally shut down, as he was able to pinch hit Tuesday, but he is apparently not feeling good enough to play a full nine innings.

Shuck (hamstring) is not in the lineup Monday.

Shuck will remain out for the fourth straight game as he continues to battle a hamstring issue. The White Sox will roll with a starting outfield of Trayce Thompson, Leury Garcia and Avisail Garcia on Monday.

Shuck (hamstring) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Indians.

He has been seeing a bit more playing time of late, but Shuck isn't an everyday player, so it's uncertain whether the hamstring issue is truly the reason for his absence. Regardless, Shuck should be viewed as day-to-day until he returns to the field.
