Geoff Blum has reached an agreement to join the Astros' television broadcast team as a color analyst.
This effectively means that he's retired from baseball. Blum was limited to just 17 games during the 2012 season due to an oblique injury. The 39-year-old infielder played with six teams during his 14-year MLB career, including two stints with the Astros. He'll call 60 games in 2013.

Diamondbacks activated INF Geoff Blum from the 60-day disabled list.
Blum batted just .237 (9-for-38) over 12 games during his rehab assignment, but the important part is that he didn't feel any discomfort with his oblique muscle. The Diamondbacks placed John McDonald (back) on the disabled list in a corresponding roster move.

Making his first start since coming off the DL on Thursday, Geoff Blum went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI on Monday.
That silly two-year, $2.7 million deal handed to Blum finally paid off for the Diamomdbacks, as he knocked in his third, fourth and fifth runs of the season. He doesn't figure to play a lot behind Ryan Roberts this month, but perhaps that will change if he puts together a hot streak.

Blum revealed the news himself on Twitter that the fracture in his right pinkie finger is healed. There's no timetable for his return to action, but he'll certainly be back sometime in September, if not late August.

Blum revealed the news himself on Twitter, saying that an X-ray came back well and the finger is healing properly. He'll performing range of motion exercises for two more weeks before starting to swing a bat again. The utilityman could be back by the end of the month.

Geoff Blum underwent successful surgery on his right knee Tuesday.
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson estimates that Blum will be sidelined for about six weeks. "I think it was fairly encouraging what they saw," said Gibson. "They didn't see bone on bone. There is still cartilage there. From the report I had, that was pretty encouraging." Look for him in early to mid June.
