Former major league catcher Kevin Cash has decided to retire.
He'll remain involved in the game, as Cash, 34, has caught on with the Blue Jays as a major league advance scout. The defense-first backstop posted an ugly .183/.248/.278 career batting line over parts of eight seasons for the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rays, Yankees and Astros.

Red Sox activated C Kevin Cash from the 15-day disabled list.
Cash will resume his duties as backup catcher for Victor Martinez. He batted .148 (8-for-54) over his first 20 games with the Red Sox before going on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain earlier this month.

Kevin Cash (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with a double in a minor league rehab game with Single-A Lowell on Sunday.
He also caught seven innings. Cash also played with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, so it appears he is very close to returning from the disabled list. Cash has been sidelined since earlier this month due to a strained left hamstring.

Red Sox placed C Kevin Cash on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 9, with a hamstring injury.
Cash has batted .204 with two home runs and four RBI over 54 at-bats since being acquired from the Astros on July 1. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Astros purchased the contract of C Kevin Cash from Triple-A Round Rock.
Cash, 32, was batting .174/.208/.174 over 23 at-bats with Triple-A Round Rock. The veteran receiver has a similarly putrid .186/.248/.287 batting line in the major leagues, so he should fit right in with the Astros. He'll function as the primarly backup to Humberto Quintero until Jason Castro is deemed ready, likely after Memorial Day.
