Shane Loux will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.
It's poor timing, as Loux could have eventually gotten a shot in the majors with the Giants' injury and performance issues. As it is, he'll now be sidelined until midseason next year.

Giants re-signed RHP Shane Loux to a minor league contract.
Loux became a minor league free agent after being outrighted off the Giants' 40-man roster in October. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 25 1/3 innings with the big club in 2012 and should function as organizational depth next season.

With Melky Cabrera reinstated from his suspension, the Giants needed to clear room on the 40-man roster and Loux was one of the unfortunate casualties. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 25 1/3 innings in relief for the Giants on the season.

Shane Loux (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno Tuesday.
Loux landed on the DL a week ago with a neck strain, an injury that he also dealt with back in June. He could be ready for activation before long he can avoid a setback, but it's no guarantee that he'll be added to the Giants' bullpen.

Giants placed RHP Shane Loux on the 15-day disabled list with a strained neck.
It's the same injury that cost him a month of action earlier this season. Loux has been ineffective in 14 games out of the bullpen for the Giants this season, posting a 5.66 ERA and 1.60 WHIP while striking out just nine over 20 2/3 innings. The newly acquired Jose Mijares is taking his spot in the bullpen.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Shane Loux from Triple-A Fresno.
As expected, Loux was added to the roster once Ryan Theriot was placed on the DL. He's been impressive during his time at Triple-A, posting a 0.43 ERA and 12/3 strikeout to walk ratio over his 21 innings of work. He'll likely serve as the long man in the Giants bullpen for the time being.
