Sat Mar 26 201112:06Mike Hampton has opted for retirement
Mike Hampton has decided to retire.
Hampton posted an 11.17 ERA while allowing 18 hits in 9 2/3 innings for the D'Backs this spring. Unlikely to make the roster, he's decided to call it quits rather than try to work his way back through the minors. "It just wasn't there," Hampton said. "In fairness to them and fairness to myself I'm just done. It's not a decision that's easy to make. It's not one you make overnight. It had been two weeks that different thoughts have been creeping in my head. Then all of the sudden I felt, I think this is going to be it." Hampton's career ends with a 148-115 record and 4.06 ERA. He was a two-time All-Star.

Wed Dec 8 201015:55D-Backs re-sign Hampton to minors deal
Diamondbacks re-signed LHP Mike Hampton to a minor league contract.
He'll get an invite to major league spring training and compete for a job out of the bullpen. The 38-year-old left-hander returned from shoulder surgery this past season and tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings over 10 appearances with the Diamondbacks down the stretch.
Mon Dec 6 201018:56D-backs have offer out to Hampton
D-backs GM Kevin Towers said he has an offer out to free agent Mike Hampton.
Hampton tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings down the stretch with the Diamondbacks following shoulder surgery. We assume the offer is of the minor league variety, and he would be used out of the bullpen. All signs are pointing to him returning, as it's not clear anyone else has interest at this point.

Mon Nov 8 201018:17Mike Hampton wants to pitch in 2011
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, free agent left-hander Mike Hampton is drawing interest and wants to pitch again in 2011.
Hampton, 38, worked his way back from shoulder surgery to toss 4 1/3 scoreless innings over 10 appearances with the Diamondbacks down the stretch. It goes without saying, but it would be a serious gamble to give guaranteed money to someone with an injury history such as Hampton.

Sat Sep 4 201023:24Mike Hampton debuts for Diamondbacks
Mike Hampton made his debut for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, retiring the only batter that he faced.
Let's not make assumptions from such a tiny sample size. Hampton inked a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks in late August and made only four appearances at Triple-A Reno before earning a promotion to the big leagues. We're betting against a major turnaround.

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of LHP Mike Hampton from Triple-A Reno.

Thu Sep 2 201021:03D'Backs to call up Mike Hampton on Friday
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Diamondbacks will call up veteran left-hander Mike Hampton on Friday.
Hampton signed a minor league contract with the D'Backs in late August and has made four relief appearances at Triple-A Reno, allowing three hits and one earned run in 3 1/3 innings. If it weren't for the September roster expansion rule, he wouldn't be getting this chance.

Tue Aug 24 201015:22Mike Hampton pitches inning in relief
Mike Hampton pitched a scoreless inning of relief for Triple-A Tacoma Monday night.
Hampton did allow a hit and didn't strike out or walk a batter, but it's news that he even completed an inning after being out of baseball all year. With the Diamondbacks hurting so badly in the bullpen, he may even be fantasy-relevant this year.
Sat Aug 21 201020:17D'Backs ink Mike Hampton to minors deal
Diamondbacks signed LHP Mike Hampton to a minor league contract.
Hampton is finally recovered from the shoulder procedure that he underwent a little under a year ago. He posted a 7-10 record and a 5.30 ERA in 21 starts with the Astros last season and is unlikely to have a major impact for the D'Backs this year or at any point in the near future.
