Thomas recorded nine tackles (six solo) and a forced fumble in Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Rams.
Thomas led the team in tackles on a day where the Seahawks' defense struggled to get stops against the Rams. He was all over the field which is nothing new from the Pro-Bowl safety. Thomas will continue to be a solid play as an IDP in what should be a top-five defense once again.

Thomas (shoulder) won't play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Raiders, but Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll suggested that the safety is ready for Week 1.
Coming off a torn labrum that he played through in the Super Bowl, Thomas has been practicing for the last two weeks. He's still toward the front end of his recovery timetable (six-to-eight months), but the Seahawks don't seem worried about his Week 1 status.

Thomas (shoulder) isn't expected to play against Kansas City this Friday, the Seahawks' official site reports.
Thomas is still building up his strength and recovering from surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum, but things are looking up for him after successfully completing a week of no-contact drills. Head coach Pete Carroll said Thomas's practice intensity will gradually increase next week, with the goal of having him ready-to-go to start at safety for the Seahawks' regular season opener against the Rams on Sept. 13th. In the 2014 season, Thomas had 97 tackles, three forced fumbles, and one interception.
Tue Aug 18 201519:56Earl Thomas: (Shoulder) Returns To Practice Tuesday
Thomas (shoulder) returned to practice Tuesday yet was held out of contact drills, the Seahawks' official site reports.
Activated from the PUP list nearly two weeks ago, Thomas was contained to walkthrough practices until he participated in some 11-on-11 drills with the first-team defense Tuesday, albeit in a red no-contact jersey. Expect the routine to continue for at least a few days, which should include an absence Friday at Kansas City, but the safety appears to be approaching full health in time for the regular season opener.
Sat Aug 8 201518:18Thomas (shoulder) participating in Saturday's walkthrough
Thomas (shoulder) is participating in Saturday's walkthrough, but coach Pete Carroll said that the safety is still a "couple weeks away" from taking part in practice, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR reports.
Thomas appears to be following the short end of the suggested 6-to-8 months of recovery from a full torn labrum. However, with practice "weeks" in the future, he remains in danger of missing the first professional contest of his career. Fellow safety Kam Chancellor has yet to report to training camp due to a contract dispute with the Seahawks, leaving one of the NFL's premier defenses noticeably thin in the secondary.
Wed Aug 5 201517:43Earl Thomas: (Shoulder) Activated From PUP List
Thomas (shoulder) was officially activated from the PUP list after passing his physical Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The occasion marks a necessary step in Thomas' quest for active status in Week 1, but he still has a decent road to travel to achieve such an end. As an IDP standout throughout his career, he's averaged 85.2 tackles (63 solo) per season, while adding 16 interceptions, eight forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one touchdown across five complete campaigns.
Thu Jul 23 201519:28Earl Thomas: (Shoulder) Unsure Week 1 Status
Thomas (shoulder) is not expected to be cleared for training camp and isn't sure he'll be ready for Week 1, Ed Werder of ESPN reports.
Thomas potentially missing games in the 2015 season was the risk the Seahawks took on when they played him in the Super Bowl with a torn labrum, so it isn't surprising he could miss at least one game. It will likely come down to when Thomas is able to reach training camp, so he should be monitored for the next couple of months to get a more concrete return time.

Thomas (shoulder) hasn't progressed to 11-on-11 work as of Tuesday's OTA, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Thomas is recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered during the NFC Championship Game, which was expected to require 6-to-8 months of recovery. After fitting in some drills early in Tuesday's practice, Thomas has five OTAs (June 4 and 8-11) and a three-day mandatory minicamp remaining to make his presence felt in the offseason program. No matter, the aforementioned timetable implies that he may not be ready for contact when training camp rolls around, meaning his health should be monitored closely to ensure he's available to the Legion of Boom to begin the season.
Thu Feb 19 201516:10Thomas has yet to have shoulder surgery but expected to be ready...
Thomas, who played through a full torn labrum in the Super Bowl, has yet to have shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for the start of the season, the Seattle Times reports.
Thomas suffered the injury in the NFC championship game. He reportedly will need six to eight months to recover following surgery, , but general manager John Schneider said Thursday that he is not concerned about Thomas being ready for the start of the season. Schneider said it's possible that Thomas is ready for the start of training camp "because we are going to monitor him and make sure we do what's best for the long term."
Thu Feb 5 201516:30Earl Thomas: (Shoulder) Needs Offseason Surgery
Thomas (shoulder) will undergo offseason surgery to repair a fully torn labrum, and he is expected to be out for six-to-eight months, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Thomas suffered the injury during the NFC Championship Game, and he opted to play through it in the Super Bowl. While it was known that he suffered a serious injury, it's surprising to learn just how severe the issue is. The recovery timeline of six-to-eight months casts doubt over Thomas' availability for training camp, but ESPN's Adam Schefter said the safety will be ready. Thomas, Kam Chancellor (knee) and Richard Sherman (shoulder) all played the Super Bowl with injuries that would typically sideline a player for an extended period of time. Slot corner Jeremy Lane suffered a broken arm during the game, and fellow cornerback Byron Maxwell is slated to become an unrestricted free agent. The Seattle secondary bears close watching this offseason.

Thomas has been dealing with a minor shoulder injury since the NFC Championship game, but after practicing all week, he'll suit up for the biggest game of the season.

Thomas (shoulder) is officially probable for Sunday's Super Bowl against the Patriots.
Thomas was a full participant in practice all week, and given the magnitude of Sunday's contest, there is almost no chance he will miss the Super Bowl.

Thomas (shoulder) was listed as a full participant in Wednesday's practice, The Seattle Times reports.
Thomas missed two days of practice last week before getting in a limited session Friday, but it now appears he is near or back at full speed. Expect the Seahawks to take the necessary precautions over the next couple days to ensure Thomas is ready to go for Sunday's Super Bowl.
Fri Jan 23 201519:13Thomas (shoulder) limited participant in Friday's practice
Thomas (shoulder) was a limited participant in Friday's practice, John Boyle of the Everett Herald reports.
The Seahawks are proceeding cautiously with Thomas after he dislocated his shoulder in the NFC Championship Game, but his return to practice in some capacity suggests the Seahawks are earmarking him to play in next Sunday's Super Bowl. It wouldn't be a surprise if he's only a limited participant in the week leading up to the game as a matter of preservation.
Mon Jan 19 201514:07Thomas (shoulder) slated to undergo MRI on Monday
Thomas (shoulder) is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, ESPN.com reports.
Thomas dislocated his shoulder during Sunday's NFC Championship Game, but regardless of what his MRI reveals, the safety is expected to play in Super Bowl XLIX. We'll let you know if that assessment changes, but at the very least, expect the issue to impact Thomas' practice participation in the coming days.

Thomas will return punts this season, coach Pete Carroll confirmed to 710 ESPN Seattle on Monday.
Thomas lobbied for the job and looked decent in the role during exhibition games. WR/PR Bryan Walters, who was cut Saturday, was re-signed Monday. So while Thomas will start as the punt returner, Walters could see action too.
Sat Aug 30 201419:42Earl Thomas: Likely To Return Punts
Following the release of wide receiver Bryan Walters, Thomas will likely open the season as Seattle's primary punt returner, Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Thomas has never returned a punt or kick during the regular season, but he did rip off a 59-yard punt return against the Bears in Seattle's third game this preseason. He has the athleticism to succeed in the role, and he might be able to tack on a touchdown or two through special teams. However, there's also the added risk of injury, which led fellow Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor to say that he thinks the idea of Thomas returning punts is a bad one, ESPN.com reports. Of course, Chancellor doesn't have much say in the matter, and it's far more telling that the Seahawks were willing to let Thomas return punts in the preseason.
Tue May 27 201417:28Earl Thomas in the mix on punt returns
Speaking Tuesday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said FS Earl Thomas would be the team's punt returner were the season to start today.
Carroll also said CB Richard Sherman was "in the mix" on punts. Both Thomas and Sherman are exceedingly dangerous with the ball in their hands, but recipients of fat new contract extensions this offseason, we doubt Seattle ends up risking their health on returns.

Sun Feb 2 201415:56Extending Earl Thomas Seahawks 'top priority'
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks' "top priority" this offseason is re-signing FS Earl Thomas.
Thomas received 7.5-of-50 Defensive Player of the Year votes in 2013, and in some circles is considered a superior defensive back to teammate Richard Sherman. Turning 25 in May, Thomas could surpass $9 million per year on his new deal. The Steelers are currently paying Troy Polamalu $9.125 million annually. The Chargers gave FS Eric Weddle $40 million over five years in 2011.
