Orioles signed RHP Josh Banks to a minor league contract.
Banks, who is being represented by former major league Gary Sheffield, apparently impressed Orioles officials during his workout Tuesday morning in Sarasota, Florida. The Yankees and Dodgers were also said to have interest in the 29-year-old right-hander.

The Orioles held a private workout Tuesday morning with free agent right-hander Josh Banks.
Banks, who is being represented by former major leaguer Gary Sheffield, threw in front of Orioles officials at the organization's minor league complex. The 29-year-old former second-round pick posted a 4.24 ERA and 10/4 K/BB ratio across 17 innings last year for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.

The Long Island Ducks of of the independent Atlantic League have signed right-hander Josh Banks.
Banks, 29, was released by the Giants last month after posting 7.27 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 78 innings with Triple-A Fresno. The 2003 second-round pick made one start with the Astros last season and has a 5.66 ERA over 19 starts and eight relief appearances in the big leagues.

He'll also get a spring training invite. Aside from one start with the Astros last June, the 28-year-old Banks spent the entire season with Triple-A Round Rock, posting a 4.04 ERA over 27 starts. He'll likely provide depth for the major league starting rotation with Triple-A Fresno.

He'll take Felipe Paulino's place in the rotation against the Rangers on Saturday. Banks, who was signed to a minor league contract over the winter, is 8-5 with a 2.97 ERA over 15 starts with Triple-A Round Rock this season. The 27-year-old right-hander was 1-1 with a 7.15 ERA in six games (three starts) with the Padres last season.
