Sat Mar 21 201512:45Lopez cut from major league camp on Saturday
Lopez was cut from major league camp on Saturday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
Lopez looked like he was in good shape in early March, but a very rocky spring has likely been his downfall. In 5.1 innings this spring, he's given up six earned runs and held a WHIP of 1.69. After a very strong year in 2012, he's struggled considerably since, pitching only 6.1 innings in the major leagues last season before being sent down to the minors. Even if Lopez latches on with another club, he has very limited fantasy value unless he can show a consistent ability to get out major league hitters.
Mon Mar 2 201511:58Lopez has 'very good chance' to make Blue Jays
Lopez has a 'very good chance' to make the Blue Jays, John Lott of the National Post reports.
Lopez struggled quite a bit in 2013 and 2014, posting an 11.37 ERA in four appearances last season. However, with three good seasons between 2010 and 2012 where his ERA sat between 2.17 and 2.96 while making at least 64 appearances in each of the three seasons, Lopez might just need a change of scenery away from the Rockies. With the Blue Jays bullpen in flux behind Aaron Loup and Brett Cecil, Lopez has a chance to contribute, though still has limited fantasy value due to a low strikeout rate and a lack of consistency at the major league level in the past two seasons.

Lopez signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays on Friday that includes an invite to spring training, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports.
Lopez pitched most of 2014 with Triple-A Colorado Springs, posting a 4.57 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 35 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. He had a disappointing two seasons in the Rockies organization after a couple good seasons in Houston. Part of the decline could be contributed to playing in the high elevation in Colorado, but he will need to prove himself in spring training to get a shot at a bullpen spot with Toronto, another hitter's ballpark.
Sat Oct 4 201414:00Lopez has elected free agency
Lopez has elected free agency, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
After posting sub-3.00 ERAs in each of his final three seasons with the Astros, Lopez put up a 4.63 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 81.2 innings in his two seasons in Colorado. Given his recent struggles, Lopez seems likely to have to settle for a minor league deal in the offseason.

Rockies designated RHP Wilton Lopez for assignment.
It wasn't too long ago that Lopez was a quality reliever in MLB, but he was demoted by the Rockies two months ago and had a 4.66 ERA over 29 innings in Triple-A. The Rockies still owe him a little over $1 million for the rest of the season.

Wed Apr 9 201413:33Wilton Lopez optioned to Triple-A
Rockies optioned RHP Wilton Lopez to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
It's been quite a fall for Lopez, who was a great reliever and occasional closer just a couple years ago with the Astros. He was inconsistent last year with the Rox and was blasted for eight runs and 18 hits over his first 6 1/3 relief innings this season. Lopez will try to regroup at the minor league level.

Sun Feb 23 201416:35Wilton Lopez dealing with stiff neck
Wilton Lopez missed his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday due to stiffness in his neck.
It's not considered a serious issue at this point, but will be something to monitor moving forward. The veteran right-hander is expected to work in the sixth or seventh inning this season, getting the ball to Rex Brothers and LaTroy Hawkins.

Rockies and RHP Wilton Lopez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.2 million contract.
Lopez posted an underwhelming 4.06 ERA and 48/18 K/BB ratio over 75 1/3 innings last season, but the Rockies are optimistic that he'll have better results in 2014. The 30-year-old was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.

Mon Dec 2 201308:47Rockies expected to tender Wilton Lopez
The Rockies are expected to tender a contract to Wilton Lopez before Monday night's deadline.
Lopez had a disappointing 4.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 75 1/3 innings this past summer for Colorado, but the 30-year-old right-hander still has very good career numbers and the Rockies think he can bounce back in 2014. He is arbitration-eligible for the second time.

Thu Jun 13 201317:24Lopez ejected from Thursday's game
Wilton Lopez was ejected from Thursday's game against the Nationals for objecting to consecutive balk calls in the seventh inning.
Lopez was furious after he was called for consecutive balks by second base umpire Bob Davidson, which allowed the tying run to score. He was yelling at first base umpire and crew chief John Hirschbeck before he got tossed.

Sun May 19 201303:05Lopez hurls 1 1/3 perfect frames in win
Wilton Lopez tossed 1 1/3 perfect relief innings in Saturday's 10-2 drubbing of the Giants.
Lopez held a 12.46 ERA on April 12 and has been working since to minimize the toll his early-season woes wrought on his earned run average. He finished his first month in Colorado with a 6.17 ERA, but has been the reliever the Rockies believed they were acquiring over the winter since, posting a 2.08 ERA over 8 2/3 innings. Interestingly, Lopez had a superb 8/0 K/BB rate during his awful April and has notched a sub-mediocre 3/3 K/BB rate in May.

Fri Apr 12 201312:47Wilton Lopez struggling in the early going
Wilton Lopez holds a 10.80 ERA and has allowed 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings so far this season.
Much of the damage came on Opening Day, when Lopez allowed three runs on four hits over an inning of work. Still, he's given up a run an six hits since then while striking out just one batter. The reliever's velocity has been down a tick so far, but so far there's been no talk that last year's elbow issue is a problem again. Lopez could get passed by Rex Brothers as the Rockies' backup plan at closer if his struggles continue.

Wed Jan 16 201318:21Wilton Lopez avoids arb. with Rockies
Rockies avoided arbitration with RHP Wilton Lopez by signing him to a one-year contract.
The financials of the deal aren't known at this time, but Lopez was arbitration-eligible for the first time, so his contract should be relatively modest despite his performance the last three years. He's posted a 2.64 ERA over the last three seasons and will help set up for the Rockies in 2013.

Tue Dec 4 201223:16Wilton Lopez heads to Colorado for Alex White
Rockies acquired RHP Wilton Lopez and a player to be named later or cash from the Astros in exchange for RHPs Alex White and Alex Gillingham.
The deal has officially been announced, so obviously the Rockies are convinced that Lopez's elbow isn't an issue. As long as he stays healthy, the right-hander should be a nice setup man for the Rockies, as he's put up a sub-3.00 ERA in each of the last three seasons for the Astros. White failed miserably in Colorado but is an intriguing pickup by Houston.

Tue Dec 4 201222:57Rockies acquire Wilton Lopez from Astros
MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports that the Rockies have acquired Wilton Lopez from the Astros.
No word yet on who the Astros will receive in return, but the Denver Post's Troy Renck reported earlier that it was expected to be two pitching prospects. A potential deal last week sending Lopez to the Phillies was nixed reportedly due to a physical concern with the righty, so don't etch this one down in stone until he passes a physical.

Tue Dec 4 201222:25Rockies 'closing in' on deal for Wilton Lopez
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are "closing in" on a trade for Wilton Lopez.
The Phillies reached an agreement to acquire Lopez last week, but the deal reportedly fell through due to physical issues with the right-hander. Evidently that hasn't deterred the Rockies from pursuing him. Lopez deal with elbow issues with the Astros in 2012 but posted a 1.85 ERA over his final 32 games after returning from the DL. Renck expects the Astros to receive two young pitchers in the deal.
